Community Highlights: Meet Blaine McGowan of chido Taco Lounge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blaine McGowan.

Hi Blaine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
When we opened chido Taco Lounge in March of 2021, I had never worked in a restaurant a single day in my life. I had, up to that point, been in sales most of my adult life. I’ve always been a foodie and fairly well-versed home cook. People loved my food when I would cook for parties. 2 years prior to opening; I started “Frisco Supper Club” which was dinner club that I hosted at my house in far West Frisco. It started out mostly family and friends, but quickly grew into us having complete strangers in our house and a growing waiting list to get in. We could only host 14 people at a time and did this once a month up until Covid hit. A good friend of mine was at the last one and encouraged me to go find some money and open a “real restaurant,” so I did. This is how chido Taco Lounge was born:

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been an incredibly bumpy road to get to where we are today. Numerous times over the past 2 years, I thought we were going to have to close our doors. It’s still incredibly hard. My lack of experience shined bright often and early. I trusted people to help me run this place, but they took advantage of my inexperience.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about chido Taco Lounge?
We are a modern Taco Lounge specializing in unique Tacos and a vast tequila selection. We are a full-service restaurant, while most Taco joints are counter-service. We focus on providing an experience instead of just a meal.

What are your plans for the future?
We are looking forward to growing our business and expanding to multiple locations.
