Community Highlights: Meet Brittany Hampton of Brittany Hampton Counseling PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Hampton.

Hi Brittany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began my career as a kindergarten teacher and had the honor of spending most of my teaching career in Lovejoy ISD. Over a decade in education, I learned so much about who I was, what I had to offer, and where I felt most at home. I knew I was meant to work with children.

As the years went on, I began to recognize that many of my students were coming into the classroom with social and emotional needs that extended far beyond academics. When COVID disrupted their lives, those needs became impossible to ignore. I found myself searching for ways to give my students what they seemed to need most: safety, warmth, connection, and love.

I began to understand that before we can ask someone to learn, grow, heal, or take on whatever comes next, there has to be a foundation of safety. When our most basic needs to feel safe, loved, accepted, and connected aren’t being met… there often isn’t much capacity left for anything else.

That realization changed the direction of my career. I completed graduate school, transitioned from the classroom into school counseling, and eventually completed the 3,000 supervised hours required to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. From there, I took another leap and became a business owner, opening my own solo private practice, Brittany Hampton Counseling, PLLC in 2024.

Today, my work has expanded beyond children, and I have the privilege of working with people of all ages. Somewhere along the way, I realized that what I saw in my kindergarten classroom wasn’t unique to children. At the end of the day, so many of us are searching for the same things: a place where we feel safe enough to be ourselves, loved enough to be vulnerable, and accepted enough to know we don’t have to earn our belonging.

As J. Warren Welch so beautifully put it:

“I found the world woefully lacking in safe spaces, so I decided to become one.”

– J. Warren Welch

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Becoming a business owner was one of the scariest things I have ever done. For most of my career, I had the security of working within a system. I had a steady paycheck, health insurance, retirement, and paid time off.

Opening my own private practice meant walking away from that and into a lot of unknowns. There was no guaranteed paycheck, no built-in insurance or retirement, no curriculum or guidelines to follow, and no team to fall back on. There was no one telling me what needed to be done next or reassuring me that I was doing it right. I had to figure it out.

I had spent years learning how to be a teacher, a counselor, and a therapist. I had not spent years learning how to run a business. Suddenly, I was doing both.

Over time, I became more comfortable making decisions without having all the answers. I learned to trust my judgment, ask for help when I needed it, make mistakes, and keep going.

Owning a business has challenged me in ways I didn’t expect, but it has also given me a much clearer sense of who I am and what I’m capable of. What started with fear and uncertainty became a six-figure business in my very first year. I took something that genuinely scared me and built a practice that allows me to do work I care deeply about, create a schedule that works for my life, and have the freedom to bet on myself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Brittany Hampton Counseling PLLC?
Brittany Hampton Counseling, PLLC is my solo therapy private practice in Allen, Texas. I work with children, teens, and adults in person and virtually. Before becoming an LPC, I spent taught kindergarten and went on to become a Certified School Counselor and 504 Coordinator. That background in education, child development, and mental health gives me a unique perspective, especially when working with children, teens, young adults, and parents.

I enjoy working with anxiety, ADHD, Gifted & Talented struggles, failure to launch young adults, parental divorce, life transitions, self-esteem, trauma, parenting, teacher burnout, career changes, and those seasons when life just feels harder than it should.

My style is warm, relaxed, practical, and collaborative. I want people to leave not only feeling heard, but with practical tools they can actually use in their lives.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as creating a space where someone feels safe enough to share the hardest parts of their life. If I can create that sense of safety and trust, and we can work together toward their goals and the life they want, that feels like success to me. At the end of the day, we’re all just walking each other home.
