Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Jurand.
Hi Brittany, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got into the health insurance industry about a year and a half ago during a season of my life when I honestly had no idea where it would lead. At the time, I was working traditional 9–5 jobs, barely making it financially, and constantly feeling like I wasn’t as available for my family as I wanted to be.
I’m a mom of three daughters, and they have always been one of my biggest motivations. I wanted to build a life where I could be more present for them, have more control over my time, and most importantly, become someone they could look up to and be proud of.
Around that same time, I began dealing with some major health issues with my heart. I was in and out of doctors’ offices and hospitals, and my health caused me to miss quite a bit of work. Unfortunately, those absences ultimately contributed to me losing a few jobs. It was an incredibly difficult and uncertain season for our family, but looking back, it also pushed me toward a completely different path.
I originally started in health insurance as a way to make some extra money and give myself something productive to focus on while dealing with my health. I never imagined it would turn into the career and business I have today. Going through my own medical journey also gave me a completely different perspective on health insurance. I experienced firsthand how quickly medical expenses can add up and how important it is to understand the coverage you have.
The beginning wasn’t easy. I was doubted by others, I doubted myself at times, and there were plenty of days when I questioned whether I could really make it in this industry. But I kept showing up, learning, and putting in the work.
Eventually, I became an independent health insurance broker, which gave me the ability to work with multiple carriers and help people find options based on their individual healthcare needs and budgets rather than being limited to one company.
In a relatively short amount of time, things started growing faster than I ever expected. I began breaking production records, earning recognition as a top-producing agent, and consistently reaching goals that I once wasn’t sure were possible for me. Because of that growth and success, I was given the opportunity to step into leadership and build my own team of agents. Now, I’m not only building my own business, but I also get to train, mentor, and help other agents build careers of their own.
There are still plenty of 8–15 hour workdays behind the scenes, and building a business certainly hasn’t been easy. But now those hours are going toward something I’m building for myself and my family. I have more control over my career, I’m able to be there for my girls, and I genuinely love the work I do.
One of the most rewarding parts of my job is hearing the relief in someone’s voice when I help them understand their coverage or find an option that better fits their family’s needs and budget. Knowing that my own difficult experiences with health and insurance ultimately led me to a career where I can help other families makes this journey even more meaningful.
I started this simply hoping to make some extra money during one of the hardest seasons of my life. A year and a half later, I’ve built a career I genuinely love, broken records I never imagined I would, stepped into leadership, and started building my own team. I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come, but what means the most to me is knowing my three daughters are watching me build something from the ground up and seeing firsthand what can happen when you refuse to give up.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges early on was learning to believe in myself when other people didn’t. I previously worked for a company where I was doubted and even told that I wouldn’t make it anywhere else in this industry. Instead of letting that stop me, it eventually became motivation to prove to myself that I was capable of building something of my own.
I also learned very quickly that the first year of building a business can be incredibly challenging. You’re not just learning the industry—you’re building your name, establishing your brand, earning people’s trust, creating referral partnerships, networking, and figuring out what works through a lot of trial and error. None of that happens overnight.
There were slow months when business wasn’t coming in the way I wanted it to, and I absolutely questioned whether I had made the right decision. When you work for yourself, those slower seasons can test your confidence. But they also taught me consistency. I learned that you have to continue showing up, making connections, following up, and putting yourself out there even when you aren’t immediately seeing the results.
Looking back, I’m grateful for those challenges because they forced me to grow both personally and professionally. Being doubted taught me to trust myself. The slow months taught me patience and discipline. Building my brand from the ground up taught me the value of relationships and reputation. And now, seeing the growth that has come from staying consistent makes those difficult seasons feel even more meaningful.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is centered around making health insurance feel less overwhelming and more personal. As an independent health insurance broker, I’m able to work with multiple carriers and compare different coverage options rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution. I work with individuals, families, self-employed and 1099 workers, small business owners, teachers, traveling workers, and more. I also offer child-only health plans, which has become an important part of my business for parents who may need coverage specifically for their children. My goal is to understand each client’s healthcare needs and budget and help them find an option that makes sense for their situation.
What I believe sets my business apart is the relationship I build with my clients. I don’t want someone to feel like they’re simply purchasing a policy from me and then being left on their own. I want to be their resource before, during, and after enrollment. I’m most proud that my brand has grown largely through relationships, referrals, and people trusting me enough to send their friends and family my way. As I continue growing and building my team, I want to maintain that same personal approach. To me, success isn’t just about how many policies I write, it’s about how many individuals and families I’m able to help.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memories come from being raised by my great-grandparents. They took me in when I was just three weeks old and gave me the kind of unconditional love, protection, and stability every child deserves. They weren’t just my great-grandparents—they were the parents who raised me and helped shape me into the person I am today.
I grew up on 50 acres in the small town of Oakwood, Texas, where life was simple in the best way. I spent my childhood fishing, riding four-wheelers, being outside, and just getting to be a kid. When I look back, it’s not one specific memory that stands out, it’s the life they gave me and the love I experienced growing up. That will always be one of the greatest gifts of my life.
