Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Brown.
Hi Candace, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. I knew fairly early that I wanted to be a Dentist. It started in the 9th grade after our School Principal challenged our class to start investing in our future career choices. I took advantage of programs that allowed me to volunteer and shadow in dental spaces and found reassurance that Dentistry was for me. Went on the graduate from Baylor University with a B.S Degree in Family Consumer Sciences and a minor in Chemistry. I was not accepted into Dental School on my first try but I didn’t let that keep me down. I re-applied and was accepted the 2nd time around and went on to graduate in 2012. I practiced as an associate for 5 years before opening my own dental practice in 2018.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has NOT been a smooth road. I struggled with getting access to capital to both start and grow my business along the way. As the business grew, I struggled with managing the multiple roles with being a wife, mother, and business owner. I desperately sought out mentorship to guide me and help me avoid detrimental mistakes. Even to this day, I’ve sought out a business coach to help me with organizing my life and practice in an effort to produce something that is both profitable and efficient.

I’m a mother of a special needs kid who is the absolute joy of my world. My husband and I of eight years are both very passionate about our family time and making real progress in our communities.
