Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Sims – Mosley.
Hi Candace, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in the heart of Oak Cliff, living with my grandparents, my grandfather taught me hard work, determination, and the spirit of entrepreneurship. He took care of his family while running a successful business. Along my journey, I was able to see exactly what it took to build a business, strengthen a business, and increase productivity in an ever-growing competitive environment. Though I experienced several life challenges along the way of deciphering what path I wanted to travel, it wasn’t until I connected with a Tax Preparer. The Tax Preparer introduced me to taxes, the company trained me on how to prepare taxes. I apprenticed with the company for a year and later ventured off to start my own Tax Preparation Service. It wasn’t until I was preparing taxes for about four years, I then launched Genesis Financial Service. This name came from the bible, the thought of being the beginning and the end and how God created all things in the first chapter of the bible. The name symbolized a new beginning, it was like God was rebirthing me mentally, physically, and spiritually.
My tax company is a one-stop service, we educate you on personal taxes, business taxes, earned income, withholdings, tax credits, and filings. We are the beginning and end to all your tax needs. We educate you, the family, and all those that you are attached to. We believe in the thought that it takes a village. Who would have thought that my five clientele would have turned into five hundred! I went from working out of someone else’s office to having my own. It grew right before my eyes! Before I knew it, I was doing whole families. I began to love my job. It gave me a sense of responsibility to help and educate our people about taxes. I tried other businesses in my 13 years but nothing stuck like taxes.
My passion for fashion is where the brand Treasure Chest Accessories was launched, I feel that eventually, men or women should have a piece of treasure when they leave home, a piece that is one of a kind and allows one to embody the energy of beauty. Treasure Chest has taken off like a rocket. I have days where I sell out inventory in less than 24 hours. That’s when I realized that I needed to up my supply count and balance both companies.
Currently, I am in the process of rebranding both Genesis Financial Services and Treasure Chest Accessories, along with opening up several more tax companies, hosting tax seminars, and introducing other aspiring entrepreneurs to the wholesale industry by teaching them about the business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This is a two-answer question. In the beginning, I would say that I felt defeated, I felt this way because of past decisions, that I would be limited to certain opportunities and it would force me to go down paths that were not favored. But, once I changed my mindset, I began to know that each and every challenge I experienced was Divine Providence fueling me towards my life purpose. Instead of using the challenges as a roadblock, I began to use those blocks as a testimony and a speaking point. It is my goal to add value and wisdom to those that I was connected to through my two businesses. . So yes, I faced many challenges, and no it has not been a relatively smooth road but it has definitely been an amazing road worth traveling and I would not change it for anything in the world. I am immensely grateful for this journey allowed thus far.
We’ve been impressed with Genesis Financial Service and Treasure Chest Accessories, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Genesis Financial Services is a one-stop business as mentioned earlier, we assist the whole family by educating on taxes, we partnered with an insurance company that has allowed us to educate our clients on the importance of life and health insurance, we assist with business services by offering resume services and we do notary as well. Our ultimate goal is to add value and assistance to the whole family by supplying one with the education required to be self-sustained.
Treasure Chest Accessories is the representation of a freeing experience, everyone seeks to have validation or confidence of appearance. When you place a piece or pieces of our Treasure Chest jewels you take on the spirit of uniqueness, self-love. Our pieces represent those one-of-a-kind pieces to add value to your wardrobe and give you that pop of uniqueness and style, preparing you for whatever space you are entering.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The most important thing to me in life is being balanced, living my life with a purpose, and adding value and assistance to those in need. All my life I have possessed the spirit of giving without the expectation of anything in return. I was a giver even before I knew God’s word for myself. The two business opportunities have allowed me to bless others in so many ways; by employing others, extending resources and goods to nonprofits, assisting with summer camp programs and school supply drives. Both of my companies not only employ others, but we also give back candidly and provide services and products. What matters most to me is being in a position to help those in need period, I have and am still evolving into creating generational wealth not only for my children, but for all those I am indirectly and directly connected to. My heart is big…I want to shed a bright light into the world. My clients have become my family and the bond we have matters the most to me.
