Today we’d like to introduce you to Caylin Teague.
Hi Caylin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It started at eight years old in my grandmother’s kitchen. While they are playing rummy, I would pin curl and style my grandmother’s hair and pretend to shave my grandpa’s bald head with shaving cream and a popsicle stick.
As well as burning my Barbies hair off with the flat iron and cutting it.
As I got older, I would go to my mother’s hair appointments with her and ask her stylist all of the questions how hard it was to keep foils from slipping, and washing hair without soaking clients shirts. I would also ask my boyfriend’s barber how it felt to use clippers and razors; I was very intrigued how they transformed the way people looked, and how it made the clients feel.
I grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas where I went to Old High (WFHS). I went to summer school every year for the first 3 years of high school to be able to graduate 6 months early in December ‘09 and start cosmetology early spring. I was in the Cosmetology program in Vernon college in Wichita Falls, where I met so many now successful business owners themselves!
I started off doing womans hair at Regis in the mall, moved to Dallas to do hair extensions in uptown. Got tired of the hustle and bustle of Dallas, so I decided to go back to Wichita Falls and did extensions till I moved to Orlando. I took some time off of doing hair for a bit after i moved, then started at a med-spa where I focused on facials, extensions, bridal hair, and makeup. I had what I called at the time a mid-life crisis at 22, and applied to be a flight attendant. I did that from 2015-2017.
Later I decided to sharpen my styling skills again and worked at a style only salon in Southlake; where I realized a good foundation in a stylist is giving a good round brush blowout.
I found my forever calling in mens hair in October of 2017. The thought of using clippers and giving this machine complete control was wild and scared the crap out of me! Especially, since it’s been 10 years up to this point, and I hadn’t cut men’s hair. I taught myself how to look at shapes of people’s heads, and determine how to cut and style their hair. As I got more comfortable, I started shaving faces. The upper lip still terrified the crap out of me, because cutting someone is the last thing you want to do. Especially on such a sensitive and delicate area. After five years of loyalty, love, dedication, and hard work- I decided to design and open my own barbershop. In between that time, I took two courses at Texas laser Institute in an aesthetician certification at Dallas skin Institute.
I created Beard Bar in Hudson Oaks in 2021 as a place where stylists like myself could step out of the corporate grind and into a space that values creativity and individuality over being just another number.
I built it with the vision of fostering a supportive, uplifting community. One where our clients immediately feel welcome, encouraged, and cared for the moment they walk through the door.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes and no. It hasn’t been without its struggles. Building a business from the ground up takes persistence, sacrifice, long hours, and plenty of trial and error. I’ve also learned a great deal from my peers and from many of my clients, who happen to be successful business owners themselves. Every challenge I faced reminded me why I started — to create something meaningful not only for my clients and community, but also for my staff.
There were times when I struggled with feelings of guilt and not being worthy, but those hard moments gave me perspective and made the successes even sweeter. I’m especially grateful for the three people who invested in me and recognized my worth, drive, and work ethic. Their support fueled my dedication to creating a workplace where barbers and stylists feel safe, comfortable, and empowered to be their authentic selves — something you can’t always find in a booth rental environment. Our team thrives because we lift each other up, and that culture is one of my proudest achievements.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Me and one of my good friends have a 501(c)(3) foundation called doing whatever it takes. It is a $5000 scholarship to high school seniors to go to trade school. So anyone looking/ already accepted to trade school can apply. Something that a traditional college grant doesn’t support.
Submissions are to be submitted by a teacher, counselor or boss.
As well as looking to help the community (surrounding areas)
We do school supplies and coat drives, as well as canned food drives throughout the year as well. I believe community is the biggest part of business.. the least somebody can do is give back to the community that pours into them.
