Community Highlights: Meet Christine Trendel of Indigo Iris Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Trendel.

Hi Christine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my hairstylist journey back in 1985,
working in a handful of small, independently owned salons while I learned the ropes and really discovered my love for doing hair. In 1994, I moved into a corporate salon setting, and honestly-thrived there. It was a great place to grow, learn, and connect with so many clients.
Then in 2020, I decided it was time to take a big leap and open my own place.
That’s when Indigo Iris Salon in Fort Worth, Texas was born. I’ve now been an independent salon owner for five years, and it’s been the best reminder of why I started this career in the first place. Being behind the chair, creating, and connecting with people-it’s truly where my heart is.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were a few bumps in the road, but nothing that made me question my choice of career or made me lose focus.

We’ve been impressed with Indigo Iris Salon, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I open my salon I wanted to honor my grandparents. They both liked Iris’s, so that is how Indigo Iris got its name. I have been a licensed cosmetologist for 40 years. I specialize in gray coverage, all-over color and foil highlights. I especially enjoy working with short hairstyles. I offer cuts to both men and women. I am most proud of how I connect with my clients and how comfortable they feel the moment they walk into my suite

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Having a mentor and reaching out to fellow stylist is incredibly beneficial in this industry. Its the best way to continue to learn new techniques, keep up on the latest trends and to grow your business. I have had some incredible mentors and fellow stylist in my career that I have learned so much from.
