Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Gary.
Hi Cynthia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I moved to Dallas Texas from Rockford Il in August 2021 to grow my consulting firm and seek the many opportunities this city has to offer.
I always knew I wanted to have a career in the business field, but it wasn’t until a few drastic changes in my life took place that gave me the drive to become a business owner. In 2018, I was convicted of a felony for possession with intent to deliver drugs, that’s another story in itself, but this event caused me to work harder at being my own boss. I served two weeks in jail and was sentenced to 30m of probation.
I made the decision that once my probation sentence ended, I would move out of the city I lived in, Rockford Il, and go somewhere that offered more opportunities. Realizing even more how hard it was to get a job as a felon, I realized I would start my own business and never let an employer decide I wasn’t worthy because of a conviction, I decided I wouldn’t let a job or a conviction define my character or tell my story just by viewing a charge on my background. I would soon be an example that life does not end because you get a felony, it can surely just begin.
After many prayers and much faith, I was hired at target distribution, the first real job willing to give me a chance after my conviction. This is also where my entrepreneurial journey started and business was eventually birthed.
After a few months at target and starting up my plans to start my own business and eventually move out of town once I was able when my 30 months of probation was successfully over, I begin making better choices in life, and fixing my about credit was one. I begin to learn about credit, the repair process, and everything about credit, and it became my passion very quickly.
I grew up in a low-income poverty community’s majority of my life, I knew nothing of credit or financial literacy. So, once I got a taste of it, I wanted more. I begin to fix my credit, my friends and family credit, I started reading more books, and watching videos and then I scrolled across a 30-day course, and that’s how it all begin.
A course motivated me to launch my own business. I knew I was going to start my own business after the disgrace I experienced being outcast because of my background. That drove me to entrepreneurship, although I didn’t dream of starting a credit consulting agency where I would help entrepreneurs build personal and business credit, I’m very happy this is how God planned it.
After nearly 1 year in business, I decided to give my all to my business to help it grow and become a full-time entrepreneur. I was tired of choosing my job over my business, neglecting the growth of my business to work and grow someone else business. So, on 12/31/2020, New Year’s Eve, I decided enough was enough, this would be my last year working for somebody and I walked out of target and never returned to them or another employer.
In fact, less than 3 months after I quit my job, I visited Dallas Texas for the first time and I was in love! The energy, the air, my spirit, felt so at home, and I found a place to call home during my visit, and I was scheduled to arrive 2.5 months after my first visit! Talk about life moving fast.
I quit my job 12/31/2020, fast forward to May of 2021 I visited Dallas for the first time ever and found a place to call home, then august 1st 2021 I was a Dallas resident. Barely 9 months later and it has been the best decision I ever made.
I have been able to make connections with multiple realtors, other credit consulting agencies, and entrepreneurs, and not to mention my business has grown by over 150% in revenue.
It all started in an effort to be better and have better credit, and now I’m on my way to becoming the first generational millionaire in my family. Amen.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There has been many struggles along the way. When I first started my entrepreneurial journey, I was still a full-time student finishing college, a full-time mother of two toddlers under 5, not to mention my first year of running my business I worked a full-time job, 12 hours shifts overnight 6 pm-6 am. So, it was tough, it came with many sleepless nights and many doubts and fears of failing. The struggle is with your mind, you want to give up sometimes but you can’t.
