Community Highlights: Meet Damon Overton of NoLimit Basketball Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Damon Overton.

Damon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a Basketball Skill Development Coach. I found interest in skill development after my collegiate playing/coaching career. During my collegiate playing career, we had a group of guys who stayed on campus to workout and prepare for the next season. During those long summers we seen a significant change in our skill development. Looking back on that time I realized if you just decide to put everything to the side like we did and grind it out every day then you have a chance to be the best player you can be. I received multiple individual accolades, but we had a lot of team success and it brought all of those teams closer. My goal is to give our youth the same if not better experience than I had during my playing days, and to ultimately turn our youth into great young adults with great character values.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a difficult road to get this business up and running as I had my struggles. When I moved here, I start working second shift as a security officer. Which left me no time to train anyone. As soon as I was moved to first shift, I took advantage and started training kids in a few gyms around the DFW area. As soon as I was ready to take off Covid had hit us hard and I had just got on board as an assistant coach with Drive Nations 17U EYBL girls. So, as expected all businesses took a major hit! Especially the youth sports industry as you have to have face-to-face contact with everyone in order to train/compete.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about NoLimit Basketball Academy?
I train our youth as well as some adults collegiate and professionals. I specialize in ball handling which is essential as ball handling can help with multiple facets of you game such as defense, passing, ball control, hand speed, etc… Like any other coach/competitor would say is ” I want to be the best at whatever I do where ever I am at” and I try give that message to my athletes every day I meet with them. I am most proud of what my partners and I have done to start a program not only in the DFW area but in other states where my partners are running the programs. I want the business to grow just like any other entrepreneur. I will have a website launching soon for more information, but in the meantime, people can check out the business page on IG to see what our services are and what we offer @nolimit_basketballtraining.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was known as the guy who was always fun, loving, and positive. I was always about ball and I had friends who were the same way. We spent every day riding our bikes around the neighborhood going to different parks just to hoop.
