Community Highlights: Meet Damon Washington of The T-Bag Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Damon Washington.

Hi Damon , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been in the janitorial business for many years, and one thing I’ve noticed is that everyone has their own method for storing and dispensing trash bags on the job. Some hang the roll over the trash can or its handle. Others stuff it in their back pocket. I’ve even seen people place the roll at the bottom of the trash barrel. There’s no shortage of creative approaches.

Personally, I used to rely on plastic grocery bags. They worked well enough for me, but I noticed my employees were tearing through them much faster than I was. That got me thinking—there had to be a better solution. After months of brainstorming, research, and trial and error, I came up with the idea for the T-Bag.

At first, I asked my sister to help me make a prototype. She gave it a shot but eventually had to step away from the project. Then my wife mentioned that one of her friends knew how to sew. I couldn’t help but say, “You know I’ve been working on this for six months, and you’re just now telling me about your friend?”

Her friend agreed to help, and after a few weeks, she called to say the prototype was ready. The moment I had it in hand, I filed for a patent. Once everything was finalized, I officially launched the T-Bag in August 2020

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of our biggest challenges has been finding the capital to effectively market our product. In the early stages, we spent a lot of money just trying to figure out what would work. Now that we’ve learned through trial and error, we have a clearer vision of what to focus on to grow the business.

Another lesson has been learning how to navigate broken promises. After running a janitorial business for over 25 years, stepping into this new venture has been a completely different experience—one that’s pushed me outside my comfort zone. It’s been a learning curve, no doubt.

Before I fully committed to this path, I asked YHWH to guide me. That prayer gave me strength and clarity. So even when things get tough, I don’t feel like I’m building this business alone.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The T-Bag Company?
At T-Bag, we specialize in solving a simple but persistent problem in the janitorial world: how to store and dispense trash bags efficiently while on the move. After more than 25 years in the janitorial industry, we saw firsthand how cleaners struggled with torn bags, awkward storage methods, and wasted time. That’s what inspired the creation of the T-Bag—a practical, durable, and easy-to-use solution designed by a janitor, for janitors.

What sets us apart is our deep understanding of the industry. This isn’t just a product born in a boardroom—it’s the result of decades of hands-on experience, trial and error, and a genuine desire to make life easier for hardworking professionals. We’re proud to offer a product that’s not only functional but also thoughtfully designed to meet the real needs of the people who use it every day.

Our brand stands for innovation, resilience, and faith. The journey to launch the T-Bag wasn’t easy—it involved broken promises, steep learning curves, and plenty of setbacks. But through it all, we stayed grounded in our mission and guided by prayer. That spiritual foundation continues to shape how we operate and grow.

We want readers to know that T-Bag isn’t just a tool—it’s a symbol of perseverance and purpose. Whether you’re a solo cleaner or managing a team, our product is here to support your work, streamline your routine, and help you do your job with confidence and efficiency.

What matters most to you? Why?
First and foremost, YHWH is at the center of my life. Without Him, I am nothing. Whether it’s in my personal journey or my business endeavors, everything I’ve accomplished is because of His guidance. Life has its ups and downs, but walking through it with Him by my side makes all the difference.

Second is my family—starting with my incredible wife, followed by my mother, brother, and sister. My wife is my rock. She supports me in every aspect of life, from business to personal growth. She makes me laugh, keeps me grounded, and somehow manages to put up with me every single day. I’ll admit it—I’m a bit of a handful. I love to meddle, and I do a pretty good job of it too. She deserves a medal!

My family has always been the backbone of my life. Before I met my wife, I went through a dark chapter in my life. If it weren’t for their love and support, I honestly don’t know where I’d be today—maybe not here at all.

Third is my passion for fitness. I’ve been training in martial arts for the past 10 years and teaching for the last year. It keeps me active, focused, and energized. It’s something I truly look forward to every week.

These three pillars—faith, family, and fitness—are what keep me grounded and motivated as I build my business and live out my purpose.
