Today we’d like to introduce you to Desireé Harding.
Hi Desireé, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been drawn to numbers and helping people make sense of them. I started my accounting career in January 2011 and spent many years working in CPA firms and in staff and property accounting roles, preparing everything from individual to corporate and nonprofit returns while managing day‑to‑day books. Over time, I saw how overwhelmed small business owners were—especially in industries like construction, restaurants, healthcare, rentals, churches, and retail—and how much calmer they felt when their books were clean and tax‑ready.
That’s what led me to start Harding Accounting Services. I wanted to offer remote, full‑charge bookkeeping that’s accurate, practical, and rooted in integrity as a Christ follower. Today, I partner with small businesses and CPAs to handle their bookkeeping, reconciliations, payroll, sales tax, and transaction coding so they can focus on running and growing their businesses. Outside of work, I’m a wife and mom who loves cooking, baking, traveling, volunteering with my church and a nonprofit serving women and children leaving abusive homes (I Can Still Shine), and spending time with our dog, Lucy—those parts of my life keep me grounded in why I do this work.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and I think that’s true for most small business owners and working moms in general. There have been seasons where I was juggling long hours in CPA firms, tight deadlines, and learning new industries, all while trying to be present for my husband, kids, and home life. Stepping out to start Harding Accounting Services brought its own challenges: figuring out pricing, learning how to market myself, building a client base from scratch, and managing the uncertainty that comes with leaving a “steady” job. I’ve also had to grow a lot in setting boundaries, saying no when something isn’t a fit, and trusting God with the ups and downs instead of trying to control everything myself. Those struggles have shaped me—they’ve made me more empathetic with clients who feel overwhelmed, more intentional with my time, and more committed to building a business rooted in integrity and service, not just numbers.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Harding Accounting Services is a remote bookkeeping practice that supports small businesses so they can stop feeling behind on their books and actually understand their numbers. I focus on full‑charge bookkeeping: day‑to‑day transaction coding, reconciliations, AR/AP, payroll through systems clients already use (like ADP, Paychex, or QuickBooks Online), and sales tax support, all with clean, tax‑ready records that make life easier for both owners and their CPAs.
I specialize in working with service‑based and trade businesses—fence companies, home builders, bars and restaurants, rental and property management companies, doctors, chiropractors, stylists, churches, fleets, and retail. Because I’ve spent years inside CPA firms preparing 1040, 1065, and 1120/1120S returns, I’m known for books that are detailed, organized, and truly ready for tax season, not just “good enough” data entry.
What sets me apart is a mix of depth and heart: 15+ years of hands‑on accounting experience, the perspective of a former business manager, and an integrity‑driven, Christ‑centered approach. I’m not trying to churn through as many clients as possible; I build long‑term relationships, tailor pricing and scope to each client, and prioritize clear, kind communication—especially for owners who feel intimidated by financial jargon.
Brand‑wise, I’m most proud that clients describe working with me as “peace of mind.” The brand isn’t flashy; it’s calm, dependable, and human. I want your readers to know that Harding Accounting Services is for the real‑life business owner who’s wearing too many hats and needs a trustworthy partner in the background—someone who will keep the books accurate, the deadlines met, and the explanations down‑to‑earth so they can focus on serving their customers and caring for their families.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that my work and my worth are not the same thing. As an accountant and business owner, it’s easy to tie your value to how perfect the books are, how busy you are, or how impressed other people seem. But over time—and through plenty of late nights, mom-guilt moments, and seasons of financial uncertainty—I’ve learned to anchor my identity in Christ first, not in my to‑do list or my client roster. That shift has changed how I make decisions in my business: I’m more willing to say no when something isn’t aligned, to set healthy boundaries, and to choose integrity over “quick wins.” It’s also made me more gracious with myself and with my clients, remembering that we’re all human and learning. When I lead from that place—faith first, then service and excellence—the business is healthier, my family is healthier, and the people I work with feel genuinely cared for, not just “handled.”
