Hi E & Crys Smith , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
MellowScents started from a genuine love for fragrance. I was introduced to fragrance oils and started wearing them myself. Everywhere I went, people would stop me to ask what I was wearing. After hearing compliment after compliment, I thought, “Why not share this goodness with the world?”
What began as a small side hustle quickly grew into something much bigger. For the first few years, I built the business on my own, but everything changed when my wife joined me. She’s a true scent connoisseur with an incredible understanding of fragrance, and she introduced me to an entirely different world of scent that I never knew existed.
That’s when MellowScents truly evolved into what we proudly call a Luxury Oil Atelier. We shifted our focus beyond simply offering fragrance oils and began curating an elevated scent experience centered around luxury niche fragrances, exceptional quality, long-lasting performance, and fragrances that allow people to express their identity through scent.
Like many small businesses, our journey has come with its share of challenges. We’ve built MellowScents while balancing full-time careers, packed orders by hand, learned through trial and error, and stayed committed even during the slower seasons. Every lesson has helped shape the brand into what it is today.
What we’re most proud of is the community we’ve built. Seeing customers return, trust us with their signature scent, and experience the confidence that fragrance can bring is incredibly rewarding. We’re still growing, still learning, and still creating, and we’re excited to continue building a brand that delivers more than fragrance, but an experience.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. Building a business while working full-time has been one of our biggest challenges. Like many entrepreneurs, we’ve experienced slower seasons, self-doubt, and plenty of trial and error. One of the biggest hurdles was having the confidence to evolve MellowScents from primarily offering inspired fragrances into the Luxury Oil Atelier we envisioned. Every challenge has pushed us to grow, refine our brand, and stay committed to creating an unforgettable fragrance experience for our customers.
