Community Highlights: Meet Eliseo Figueroa of Lima Taverna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eliseo Figueroa.  

Hi Eliseo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Lima, Peru, and in 2001, I moved to Washington, DC, to start a new life. I landed a job in the hospitality industry right away and have been working in several restaurants ever since. I started from the bottom as a busser, food runner, and barback and eventually worked my way up to become a server, bartender, and manager. With all these years and experience, I felt that my goal and mission was to open my own restaurant (Peruvian cuisine). 

“As a Peruvian, I am very proud of our cuisine, which is renowned for its fusion of styles brought by immigrants from Europe, Asia, and Africa, who combined their cooking methods with traditional Peruvian flavors to create some of the most delicious and exciting food in the world.” 

I love sharing our culture with people, and it’s my passion. To maintain the authenticity of the food, we import essential ingredients from Peru, including Peruvian peppers and corn, which is why we don’t use American substitutes. 

That’s why I opened my own restaurant, to share my culture, hospitality, and cuisine with the local people. All of the recipes come from my family, and it is a family-run restaurant. We always use the highest quality protein and vegetables for every dish on the menu, and most of the meat we serve is halal. We prepare the food the way it should be eaten, just like how we do it back in Peru. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It was a challenging journey, but We did it! I opened my own restaurant in Plano, Texas, far away from my family. It was not an easy decision, but my family and I agreed that it was the best move for me. The hardest part was introducing my cuisine and restaurant to the people in Plano, but I overcame it with Our love and passion for cooking. I poured my heart and soul into this venture, and with dedication and hard work, I was able to make my dream a reality. As a chef, it was important to me that my cuisine was authentic and true to my roots. I put a lot of effort into perfecting my recipes and ensuring that every dish I served was of the highest quality. 

Now, I am proud to say that my restaurant has become a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my love of food and culture with others, and I am committed to continuing to provide my customers with an exceptional dining experience.

We serve authentic and original food that is prepared using traditional recipes and ingredients. We take pleasure in providing our customers with a memorable and enjoyable dining experience by sharing our passion for food and culture. We stand out from other restaurants because of our dedication to quality and authenticity, and we have gained a loyal clientele in the local area. We have a variety of dishes, including vegetarian and gluten-free options, and are happy to meet the needs of our customers. 

In general, our restaurant focuses on giving customers the chance to experience something truly unique, immerse themselves in our culture, and learn about our traditions. We cordially encourage all of our customers to enjoy one of our wonderful, lovingly cooked meals and to experience our hospitality. 

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I like to listen to podcasts about economy and politics. These types podcast interest me because I want to know about the economy around me and want to updated.
