Community Highlights: Meet Elizabeth Ryan of Yard Card Queen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Ryan.

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Making people smile is my passion, so I decided to make that my full-time job!! In 2000, I got into Dentistry and had been at it ever since. Once Covid hit, many, many things changed for everyone. I wanted to find a way to keep the smiles coming so I did the next best thing… I started birthday parades in my neighborhood. Every Sunday, I would have 15-20 decorated cars lined up in front of my house that would follow me around to 3-4 houses (while we all honked, cheered and wished people a Happy Birthday).

Then on July 12th (my mom’s birthday), I got her a huge yard card greeting that said Happy Birthday, Cathie… I quickly decided that I needed to do this full time and made the decision to move forward. I spoke with Sarah who did my mom’s yard card greeting, and jumped on the chance to learn from her. After the first week of anxiously waiting for my yard cards to arrive. It finally was GO TIME!!! I belong to/am on the board of a few organizations with-in my community, so that really helped me get a jump start. I will never forget my first order!! I probably spent two days setting it up in my backyard to make sure it was perfect for my first customer. Today, six months later, I am placing yard card greeting @ 4-12 houses a night. I love the texts and videos I get the next morning of the excitement!! People often joke that I am a ninja because they never hear me come and put the sign-up. I like to just smile and think to myself that I am going to add that to my resume’ one day.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The only challenge I normally have is saying no! I don’t want anyone to miss out on THEIR special day… so sometimes, I have more yards than I do letters to put in the yards. I have been lucky enough to have found someone close to my house that always comes through and gets me the supplies I need. I have not been able to stake a yard to date (so the way I see it, this is not a bad obstacle to overcome).

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Yard Card Queen?
Yard Card Queen – East Dallas is a sign rental company that specializes in bringing smiles no matter the occasion!!! We have yard signs for birthdays, graduations, engagements, anniversaries, congratulations, new baby announcements, bridal showers, retirement, welcome home, open house, fundraisers, school events, open houses, and so much more. We have the largest, most high-quality signs and the most colorful graphics that one could imagine. No matter the occasion, our signs are sure to be a hit! I deliver and install the yard sign and will arrive promptly to remove it at the end of your rental period.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Success is never promised and it requires risk (lots of risks)… I wouldn’t call it luck as much as I would call it determination. I chose to jump in feet first and knew that the worst that could happen was I have a garage full of signs that I would use with family if no one else was interested. I knew in my heart what I wanted to do was right for me and I was willing to find a way to make it happen (even if that meant failure first)!! This journey has been one of the best I have ever encountered. I have met some amazing people and I have loved giving back to my community. Smiles are contagious… And I get to be the one to start the smile chain, one yard at a time!!!
