Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Carpenter.
Hi Emily, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My cake journey started in the most personal way — with my son’s 2nd birthday cake. I wanted to create something I could be proud of, something special just for him. What began as a simple goal quickly turned into a full-blown passion.
During nap times, baking became the perfect creative escape. With a BFA from the University of North Texas, I found that decorating cakes allowed me to use my design background in a whole new (and delicious) way. It became the ideal creative outlet — one where art and sugar could meet.
I quickly became obsessed with improving my skills and pushing myself to make each cake better than the last. Before long, I started selling to friends and neighbors, which helped me fund my growing hobby and expand my craft.
Instagram and word of mouth have been the heartbeat of my business. I share daily videos of the baking and decorating process so clients can see the love and artistry that goes into every cake. Thanks to their incredible support, I’m now booked until the new year — and have even expanded into cake pops and cookies!
What started as a way to make something beautiful for my kids has grown into a dream business where I get to share a piece of edible art with others every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been easy. There were times I took on too many orders simply because I never wanted to turn anyone away, and I ended up stretching myself too thin. Some weeks I’d have six cake orders, and the next week — none at all. What started as a “nap time” hobby quickly turned into early mornings before my sons woke up and late nights after they went to bed.
Over time, I learned how to fine-tune my schedule and find balance between work, family, and rest. I’ve discovered that there’s always room for growth — I’m constantly learning new ways to improve my baking, decorating, and time management.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Emmy-bake Oven?
I specialize in custom cakes and baked goods made from scratch. Most of my orders are birthday cakes — especially kids’ cakes, which I love creating for their fun and imaginative themes. I’ve recently started making wedding cakes too, which are both challenging and incredibly rewarding.
My cupcakes, cake pops, and new chocolate chip cookies have quickly become customer favorites. What sets my business apart is the personal care I put into every order — each cake is made with love and attention to detail. Every cent I make goes toward my boys’ future college fund, so every creation means that much to me. I truly pour my heart into making my customers’ cake dreams come true.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m such an open book- documenting everything on my baking account I really don’t know if there is something I have left out 😅
