Community Highlights: Meet Emily Dewberry of The Embody Edit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Dewberry.

Hi Emily, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My story begins during the 2020 pandemic like most who’ve gone through a big transition. During the pandemic, I was laid off from my corporate event design job, going through a breakup, and forced to end the lease of my townhouse in Houston in just the course of a few weeks. All of which were unexpected.

I realized it was time to move back to Dallas to be closer to family, and with all the transitions and changes, I fell into a battle with my mental health. During this time, I was desperate to do anything that could help how heavy I was feeling, and I will say to this day, God brought me these modalities that I now teach.

Through the wild west universe that is social media, my teachers found me. Not knowing anything about the “spiritual space” besides going to church I began to learn about breathwork, meditation, reiki (energy healing), and tarot cards. Growing up in a Christian household, these modalities were never spoken about, and I dove deep into learning more. As I started to incorporate these practices into my day-to-day, I slowly started to see progress in my mental health.

Over the next few months of deep dedication, I eventually realized that these practices truly saved my life and transformed how I live. The pain I experienced during that year made me realize that if I can just help one person not have to experience what I went through, I have accomplished my God-given gift. By the end of the year, I had received certifications and in-depth trainings for breathwork, meditation, reiki, tarot and started my practice, The Embody Edit, in January 2021, and it’s been growing and evolving ever since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would love to tell you it’s been a smooth road, but that’s been far from the truth. I love working quietly behind the scenes, and being the face of and building a brand off of my experiences has been personally challenging. Balancing a social media presence has been one of the biggest struggles as most of my classes, private sessions, workshops, and products are by word of mouth locally in Dallas.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a certified in pranayama, frequency style, and conscious connected breathwork and have 300+ hours of meditation certifications. I am also a holy fire reiki master teacher, also known as an energetic healing teacher. I also read tarot cards professionally for corporate and personal clients all over the United States.

Although these modalities can be a step out of the box for many, especially in the south, what I offer my clients is emotional, physical, and mental support. The Embody Edit uses and teaches techniques to regulate the nervous system, the part of our body that keeps us in a fight or flight, freeze, or relaxation state.

I am passionate about all of these tools, but I will say the gateway drug to healing your mind, body, and soul on the deepest level is breathwork. It can be challenging for people to open themselves up to something new and not so mainstream, but once you take a few classes, my experience with my clients is that you’ll get hooked. Breathwork connects the mind to the body on the quickest level possible, and in just 15 minutes, we can begin to release a lot of the heaviness, pain, stress, anxiety that you’ve consciously or unconsciously been holding onto. My clients can speak for me in the changes that I’ve seen in them; it’s been the biggest joy of my life to see those around me love themselves and their lives for the first time or again.

I teach at several studios around town, but I am actively growing my virtual classes, workshops, and trainings. I also provide 1:1 support session in person (in Dallas) and virtually. I believe that these modalities should be available wherever you are, and that’s why I am launching a virtual membership platform later this year.

I also have a reiki-infused crystal and gold jewelry line called Ripple that incorporates the healing intention of crystals with the beauty of everyday sustainable jewelry. This was created to provide an anchor point for additional support throughout whatever journey you’re on. Every piece that is sold a portion is donated to a mental health organization to continue my passion of giving back.

I’m definitely most proud of my clients’ results. When I can see progress and growth in how my clients go through their day-to-day and tell me the small wins like “normally a conversation like that would ruin my day” or “big life experiences no longer feel as heavy.” I can see the light in their eyes again and them embodying who they truly are; wow, that’s it. That’s the reason I do this work. It has changed my life, and if I can continue to help support those that have been in a similar space, that’s it.

I am known for my powerful breathwork sessions and approachable style to tarot. I know how to meet people at where they are because I can understand where they’ve been, the anger, the sadness, the stressed, the worried, the intimidated, the scared. My clients tell me I have an innate ability to connect people back to themselves. I make these modalities, that are still on edge of breaking through the mainstream, feel more and more approachable. Breaking the stigma of the woo, as I like to say, sets me apart from other facilitators. I love to emphasize the science-backed research to my teachings as well as the spiritual and energetic aspects – balancing the seen and unseen so that magic is possible.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memories were always centered around traveling to new environments and beautiful places. I was blessed at a young age to experience different traditions and as I’ve grown up found so much of my inspiration through how other people live. Many of my favorite memories are in places like New York City, Miami, London, Italy, and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
