Community Highlights: Meet Faith Tanksley of Tanksley’s Financial Group Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Tanksley.

Hi Faith, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up my father was always a hard-working entrepreneur and was always super busy, I never understood why until I entered high school/ my teenager years. When I was about 15 years old, my father began teaching me about Tax Preparation, he told me I had no choice but to study and learn about this subject because it will FOREVER be a part of my adulting responsibilities. Of course, I followed in my father’s footsteps, he is very knowledgeable also he was once a Millionaire before COVID-19 accorded. During COVID-19 I was being very irresponsible and conceived a fertilized egg at the age 17. I felt as if this was the biggest mistake I EVER made in my entire life, I felt as if the world was ending and I felt as if I was a failure to my family. I had two choices, I’m pretty sure you all know what the two choices were at this point. I am not going to lie, it was a very hard decision because of all the trauma that was occurring in my life around that time, but I came to the conclusion that everything happens for a reason. During my pregnancy, I was working at Walmart only making $11 per hour, 7 hours per day for 6 days a week, which is nearly ONLY $1,000 every two weeks. I was tired of working so hard for someone else, benefiting somebody else’s pockets, I decided to quit and take the risk. I began working with my father, building my knowledge, preparing myself for the day I turn 18 years old so that I could apply for my PTIN (needed in order to legally file others tax returns). During this process my significant other was murdered, when I was eight months and two weeks pregnant, I was very devastated. I knew I couldn’t give up; this was just the beginning. On April 30, 2021, I gave birth to a handsome little boy. Going through depression, I was not consistent with pursuing as a tax professional, but I did not give up. I began finding peace within myself, it isn’t about me anymore, I have someone looking up to me. I thank god every day for blessing me with a reason to continue to strive in life. I am now 19 years old, and my clientele is constantly growing by the day. I prayed for these days, but the days will not come if your inconsistent, you must put in the work and god will take care of everything else.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not smooth at all, but nothing in life is easy or handed out to you. I struggled the most with being consistent, consistency is key to success. Building clientele also was another struggle as well because as a Tax Professional, taxpayers really have to trust you with their personal information.
