Community Highlights: Meet Felicia Wilson of TACTICAL TAXES ETC LLC/HOMES 4 OUR HEROES

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felicia Wilson.

Hi Felicia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Texan American, born and raised right here in the Fort Worth area. But while that sounds idyllic, the truth of my childhood was anything but. For my siblings and me, growing up was a raw, unforgiving crash course in total self-reliance—a constant “figure it out yourself” challenge.

My father, B.E. “Billy” Wilson, was incarcerated for DWIs during my youth. My mother, Melody Wilson, was largely absent, often gone for days at a time. The result? We were home alone about 90% of the time, often without food, water, or electricity. We literally had to scramble to survive.

That foundation of instability naturally led me down a difficult path. As a young adult, I fell into the wrong crowd, beginning a seven-year withdrawal from reality where drugs seemed like the only answer to the complete darkness of my past.
My father had been out of prison since 2008, but he unfortunately racked up a total of eight DWI convictions before his passing in July of 2020. The first true turning point in my own life, the one that jolted me onto a path of recovery, was the loss of my mother in 2019. It was a slow, deliberate healing process, but the final urgency came with my father’s death. That became a solemn promise: I wouldn’t just survive; I would become who I was meant to be for a better world. I promised to use my life struggles and my “insane intelligence”—that ability to figure things out no matter the odds—to help others secure a better future.

My redemption story took its professional shape much earlier. Back in 2009, I worked at a local tax firm, Taxes Etc. The owner, Mary Calhoun, saw the raw potential and the relentless drive in me that reminded her of herself. She didn’t just teach me bookkeeping; she taught me the intricate architecture of taxes and how to keep impeccable financial records for any business. Mary is the bedrock of my professional success and the reason behind my firm’s name: Tactical Taxes Etc.

Today, Mary is a Senior Accountant at my firm and a dedicated mentor to all of our tax advisors. The person who was forced to figure out basic survival now uses that same tactical, tenacious mindset to help entrepreneurs and individuals across DFW protect their wealth and build strong financial foundations.

That commitment to a better world extends beyond our client list. It led me to co-found the Veteran Nonprofit Organization, Homes 4 Our Heroes. I partnered with two incredible Marine Veterans, Dimitri White and Sean Mahoney Jr., who have already been working tirelessly on this mission, using their own resources and donating through their Fort Worth-area businesses, Marines Unlimited and Lawn Escapades.

Our mission is simple: to provide our nation’s injured heroes with independent living through handicapped accessible new builds and remodels. Partnering with these two veterans to create a tangible difference is one of the most fulfilling uses of the drive I cultivated in my youth.

My journey proves that where you start doesn’t determine where you finish. It only dictates the intensity of the fight.

Now, as the founder of Tactical Taxes Etc. and a co-founder of Homes 4 Our Heroes, I’m honored to fight for the financial futures of my clients and the solid foundation our nation’s heroes deserve

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My childhood was a struggle. Being a single mom of 4 has been a challenge but it didn’t last long. I’ve got the best children. Of course turning my life around after addiction.
