Community Highlights: Meet Frederick Sirls of The Flex Touch Mobile Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frederick Sirls.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been a massage therapist for 9 years and it’s been a dream come true. For 8 to 9 years prior, I was reading meters(electric at first, then gas). It was at the gas company, after moving to construction fixing gas lines, that I realized I wanted and needed to find a new path. The job was physically and mentally challenging, great leadership and stable(everything I had been searching for, but I knew retiring from there wasn’t for me. So, I gave myself a couple of rules. Find something I love and something I can make my own. Like magic, massage therapy appeared. To this point, about 27 years old, I had never had a massage and didn’t know it to be anything other than relaxing. I sure didn’t know it could be a path for me. That changed when I did a tour of the school I would eventually attend. It was clear that it was so much more than relaxation. I was stepping into a field that would allow me to literally take pain away from people. A field that was about total health and wellness.

I’m a corrective bodywork specialist because it’s the modality that called to me. I loved being able to see tangible changes after sessions, the reaction of people getting off of the table pain free or with the pain being significantly less and knowing that we’re working towards long-term relief. I’ve come to be as skilled as I am because of my friend Carolyn, the person who taught me corrective bodywork.

In my time as a massage therapist I’ve worked in different types of environments that all taught me different lessons. They all led me to where I am now, working for myself completely as a mobile massage therapist. Ths journey has been one of constant growth within myself and in business. I’m beyond thankful for the people who have contributed to my growth whether they intend to or not.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The most difficulty I’ve faced has been moving into self employment before I was ready. This happened twice. Once when Covid happened. Then again in October of last year when I left a job I had planned to be at long term as I slowly built my mobile business. I Only left due to poor management. Leaving mean’t standing firm on my principles and what I won’t tolerate or cosign in my environment.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Flex Touch Mobile Massage . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in Corrective Bodywork.

The goal of Corrective Bodywork is to help you regain dynamic balance, reduce, or eliminate pain, prevent, or rehab from injury, optimize performance, understand what’s going on with your body, and to learn what you can do to maintain the results we achieve.

What you can expect to feel is the separation of muscles that are stuck together, muscles that are displaced being put back where they belong, and the lengthening of muscles that are stuck short. We do all of this in a pressure that’s specific to you.

What I’m known for is helping people deal with and understand the pain they feel, making people feel safe and cared for, addressing muscles that other therapists overlook and for getting to the root cause of the issues.

What I’m most proud of as a brand is the tangible change is see after sessions and the many people who’ve expressed how much the work I do has changed their lives. It’s an honor to serve.

What I’d like people to know is that, if you’re in pain, I’m the one you need to see.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
There are too many for me to choose from. I love anything to do with psychology, philosophy, anatomy, physiology, biology. Even my taste in music has shifted to things that have deep meaningful messages that help keep me aligned with my purpose. If it has to do with the human condition, learning myself, learning others and being better today than I was yesterday, I’m open to it. That includes meaningful conversations with family, friends, clients and even strangers that spark introspection. All of this has helped me in my personal and professional life.
