Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacquirus (Jay) Rhyne.
Hi Jacquirus (Jay), thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Jacquirus Rhyne, and I’m a wardrobe stylist specializing in influencer and celebrity styling, as well as creative director for brand development. I’m originally from Anniston, a small city in Alabama, where my creative journey quietly began long before I ever realized it would become my career.
Growing up, I was surrounded by style—authentic, expressive, and deeply personal. My grandparents were avid sewers, my mom was a musician with a flair for glam-infused home décor, and my older sister, a true child of the late ’90s and early 2000s, put it on every day like it was a runway. Watching the people around me embrace their individuality gave me the space to explore my own creativity—from fashion to videography, and everything in between.
Even as a kid, I had a unique eye. I remember wearing shoes to elementary school from a brand no one had heard of yet. But I wore them with so much confidence that eventually, everyone wanted a pair. That moment taught me that fashion isn’t just about what you wear—it’s how you wear it. It’s empowerment. It’s identity.
A pivotal chapter in my story came when my mom took a job opportunity that relocated our family to Chicago. As a teenager from a small Southern town, moving to a major city like Chicago was transformational. It opened up my worldview and exposed me to a whole new level of culture, creativity, and style. That move played a big role in shaping who I am today.
Throughout college and early adulthood, people naturally gravitated toward my style. Friends and peers began to ask me for fashion advice and help with their looks. It became clear to me that what I’d always done instinctively could actually be a path. Styling others made them feel good—and when people feel good, they do good. That connection between clothing and confidence lit a fire in me.
My first professional break came through a friend who asked me to style an influencer client of hers for NBA All-Star Weekend. It was my first paid styling gig, and not just for anyone—it was one of Netflix’s biggest stars from Love Is Blind. I took that opportunity seriously. After a creative consult call, I went straight to work, putting together a suite of standout looks. Everything was ordered and prepped… until I got the call that she wouldn’t be attending the event after all.
Disappointed but undeterred, I was thrilled when she told me she loved the looks so much she’d wear them on an upcoming trip to L.A. That moment sparked a working relationship that continues to this day—and that client remains one of my strongest collaborators.
Since then, I’ve fully stepped into my calling as a wardrobe stylist. I’ve styled athletes for their game-day entrances, influencers for press events and concert tours, brands looking to refine their visual identity, and even entire wedding parties for their big day. Every project is a new opportunity to help someone express who they are through fashion.
At the end of the day, what I love most is helping people feel seen, confident, and powerful through what they wear. Fashion isn’t just style—it’s storytelling. And I’m just getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges I face as a wardrobe stylist is building trust. Styling is deeply personal—especially for women, who make up a large portion of my clientele. While many people reach out knowing I’m the expert, they still bring their own ideas, body image concerns, and past fashion experiences to the table. It’s not just about choosing the right outfit; it’s about navigating the emotional landscape that comes with it. I’ve learned how to create safe, collaborative spaces where my clients feel heard and respected. Being from a small town, I’m very much a relationship-first kind of person, so I always take time to break the ice. Before I pull a single piece, I want to understand who that person is. That connection is what allows me to style in a way that’s not only visually on point, but also deeply aligned with how they want to show up in the world.
