Today we’d like to introduce you to James & Heather Tognazzini.
Hi James & Heather, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We are a husband and wife team, co-owners of The Salt Retreat. Our business is a dedicated salt therapy center located in Frisco, TX.
Creating, opening, and operating our small business has been an incredible journey for us both. We can hardly believe it’s been 4 years since we first opened our doors.
The concept for our salt therapy center was born out of our own family experience with the notorious North Texas allergies upon relocating here in 2014. We reluctantly starting taking daily allergy meds but were convinced there had to be a better, more natural way.
The answer for us was salt therapy (also known as halotherapy). This natural practice of saturating therapy rooms with salted air via halogenerator machines provided incredible relief as well as many healthy and relaxing benefits.
In 2017 we decided to design and open our very own salt therapy center, which we named The Salt Retreat. What started as an idea for us, developed into our full-time careers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business completely from scratch is not for the faint of heart. It is full of complex challenges and many unforeseen obstacles. There is definitely no way to predict all the hurdles from construction delays on the strip center buildout to inflated construction costs and permitting delays – there were many things to overcome.
Add in building up a business reputation from scratch in the relatively new arena of salt therapy timed with a major worldwide pandemic during a critical ramp-up phase and the result is a very wild ride.
We are very thankful to be growing and thriving again as we continue to serve our community with this very needed respiratory therapy.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Salt Retreat is a very unique business. We are one of the only full-service dedicated salt therapy centers in the entire D/FW metroplex.
The Salt Retreat was created by us, but we get approached all the time asking if we are part of a larger franchise. This makes us very proud as a brand. We literally did everything ourselves – from site selection, logo creation, and design concept to interiors and systems for our salt therapy center. It has genuinely been a labor of love for the past four years.
We have a very personalized approach to business – we get to know every client by name and find out about them. We are proud of the trust and loyalty that we have been able to build over the last 4 years.
Holistic health is so very important to us – we are passionate about providing a 100% natural, drug-free therapy to help clients struggling with respiratory issues. When our clients feel great, it makes us extremely happy!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Both of us have very hardworking families – from parents to grandparents. We both have many memories of our parents sacrificing and working long hours to provide us with everything we needed.
Although we may not have appreciated it as much when we were young, having our own business reminds us of our hardworking roots and the great examples from which we were able to learn
