Community Highlights: Meet Jasmine Masters of Madd Cheer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Masters.

Hi Jasmine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Madd Cheer Inc. was once just a daydream. I was 24 years old, working in corporate and the idea of starting a cheer team popped in my head. I cheered my entire childhood through college so it has ways been my passion. I then put my ideas on paper, started reaching out to some of my peers who cheered with me in the past to see if they would be interested in coaching. Then, the social media buzz started. I created a flyer and started sharing the flyers on Facebook and the inquiries started to roll in. Within the three years, our numbers tripled! We had a name for ourselves and at that point, we knew it was time to expand and keep this MADD Train going! We added a few people to our coaching staff and started partnering with others for additional training, etc. Perseverance is how we got to where we are today. Being told “NO” but still having the courage to push forward. Most of all, the sisterhood amongst our staff and their hard work is how we got to where we are today!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Anything work having is worth fighting for! We have experienced several obstacles along the way. One of our most common challenges was finding a permanent practice location. We’ve been creative and resourceful over the past few years with utilizing the city parks, local recreation centers, sub-leasing from other studios, etc. However, we did not let that stop us from being great! We kept going, purchase used equipment and put in storage until we were finally in a position to lease a gym space.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Madd Cheer?
Madd Cheer Inc. is an All-Star Cheer gym in Mesquite, Texas. We are a non-profit organization with volunteer coaching staff who train approximately 60-80 athletes per year in All-Star Cheerleading. We are known for “making noise” in the DFW metroplex, with a history of performing at local events, parades, and participating in community service. We currently offer cheer teams, level 1 and 2 starting at age four. Our catchy chants, red lips, and cute hairstyles set us apart! The MISSION of MADD Cheer Inc. is to promote sisterhood, empower young ladies, and support their future by instilling confidence, self-esteem and Sportsmanship, through the art of cheerleading, technique and athleticism.

What sets us apart from others is that we do not require athletes to try out for our team. We accept all athletes and train them to be blue mat ready! We are most proud of our journey thus far and how much we’ve accomplished in six years. We started out as a recreational cheer team, facing challenges of finding a permanent practice location to now leasing our very own gym in Mesquite. We open our rosters annually, usually in the Spring and we train all summer/fall to be ready to hit the blue mat and compete! Our athletes attend 3-4 competitions per year, working to earn bids to nationals. We attend different qualifiers throughout the season and based on how we place, determines if we receive bids for nationals. Our athletes rely heavily on fundraising and community support to help them along the way. All-Star Cheer is a costly sport, but at Madd Cheer, we try to provide the All-Star experience in the most affordable way possible.

What’s next?
Our future plans include expanding our home gym, obtaining a larger space to host practices and training. We also plan on offering additional skills levels in the future. We look forward to attending Summit / World’s Championships and competing against the best teams across the nation. We plan to become one of the largest black-owned cheer gyms in the nation!
