Community Highlights: Meet Jeffrey Proctor of Healing Harmony Counseling

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey Proctor.

Jeffrey Proctor

Hi Jeffrey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, TX. I started my career by working for different psychiatric hospitals and agencies. I started my private practice in June 2022, where I serve those who struggle with ADHD and those who have lived in different countries in their childhood.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To be honest, it has been pretty smooth for me. My wife is in marketing, and she was able to help me with the right ways to think about marketing my honest self to clients, and that really helped me a lot. It has been freeing to help the type of clients that I am passionate about working with. Saving money so that you are not living paycheck to paycheck while trying to start a new business also really helped me make good long-term decisions instead of having to think about making quick money just to survive.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Healing Harmony Counseling?
I serve two particular niches. The first clients that I serve are those who struggle with ADHD. They are usually people who have a hard time doing school work or keeping a job and usually have low self-esteem because they are not able to be understood by people without ADHD, and they feel like they cannot perform tasks that most others of their age can.

My second niche is called Third Culture Kids. These are people who have been raised in countries outside of their passport country. Examples of third-culture kids are missionary kids, expat kids, army brats, diplomat kids, etc. Both I and my wife are third-culture kids, and we relate to the normal struggles of third-culture kids, which are not knowing where you belong, grieving through a lot of losses because you move a lot, and struggling to know how to engage with mono-cultural peers. This is a very rare niche and is a big need because there are not a lot of therapists who know about third-culture kids.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Starting my own business has helped me to be more present with my family. I encourage anyone who wants to start their own business to take the leap but plan smart. You can do it.
