Community Highlights: Meet Johana Jimenez of The Phoenix In Every Human Being, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johana Jimenez.

Hi Johana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Johana Jimenez, M.Ed., LPC, NCC. At The Phoenix in Every Human Being.

My journey into mental health began long before I ever sat across from a client. Since childhood, I felt a deep responsibility to protect others, advocate for them, and help restore what had been harmed. At the age of ten, I believed justice lived in the courtroom, so I pursued a career in law.

Life, however, had a different plan.

When I immigrated to the United States, everything familiar fell away. I had to start over, learning a new language, rebuilding my career, and re-establishing my identity in a culture that was not yet my own. My path shifted from attorney to teacher, teacher to instructional coach, counselor, and eventually school administrator. Each transition humbled me, taught me resilience, and revealed another layer of who I was becoming.

As a teacher, I discovered something powerful. When we invest in children and youth, we help them envision possibilities for themselves that they may not yet see. Many of my students faced challenges far beyond the classroom. I realized that assisting them to thrive meant supporting not only their education but also their emotional well-being and the stability of the families raising them.

This led me to a universal truth: Children need more than academics to grow into healthy, successful adults. They need stability, connection, and a nurturing home environment. For parents to provide that, they too need support, healing, and space to be well.

This realization opened the door to mental health, not only for children but for the adults guiding them through life.

Today, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Utah, and a Nationally Certified Counselor. I specialize in anxiety and trauma, and work extensively with multicultural individuals and high-achieving professionals navigating life transitions and identity shifts. I am EMDR-trained, Gottman-trained, a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP), and a Certified Narcissistic Abuse Treatment Clinician (NATC). My approach integrates CBT, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, person-centered therapy, and a holistic mind–body lens. I continue to pursue advanced EMDR training and plan to expand my expertise into Internal Family Systems (IFS) to support even deeper healing.

My journey is one of reinvention, resilience, and rising again and again, becoming stronger, wiser, more awake, and grounded each time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming a therapist came after seasons that stretched me to my limits.

In education, I poured everything into my students. I worked from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., was part of the school leadership team, served on multiple committees, led my grade level, and was honored as Teacher of the Year by my third year. These achievements were meaningful, but they came at a personal cost.

During this time, I also completed two master’s degrees, two internships, and multiple certifications. The emotional weight was constant, and slowly, I lost touch with my own well-being.

At the same time, I navigated the complexities of being an immigrant woman, adapting to a new culture, a new language, and new expectations, all while maintaining the high-achieving standards I had always carried. I also saw that many children were struggling emotionally, not academically, and that the adults in their lives needed support too.

Eventually, I realized a truth I could no longer ignore:

I could not advocate for the well-being of others if I was sacrificing my own.

Leaving education was painful. It felt like letting go of a piece of myself, but it opened the door to a new calling, where I could support individuals and families at a deeper level.

Evolution requires courage, grief, and the willingness to start again. Every challenge I faced became part of how I hold space for others today, with compassion, presence, and the understanding that transitions are often the birthplace of transformation.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Today, I help high performers, professionals, and multicultural individuals reconnect with themselves and prevent burnout. I support clients in identifying what is not working, returning to balance, and learning to live intentionally rather than reactively.

I integrate the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy, EMDR, CBT, mindfulness, person-centered therapy, and solution-focused therapy to meet clients where they are. My goal is to help people feel safe, understood, and challenged in meaningful ways.

I work deeply with first- and second-generation individuals and high-achieving women who have “done everything right” yet still struggle with anxiety, self-doubt, identity shifts, and emotional exhaustion. Together, we identify strengths, disrupt old patterns, and create sustainable change. I also assign practical exercises to help clients integrate insights into daily life long after therapy ends.

My training in narcissistic abuse, combined with my multicultural background, allows me to support clients who have experienced emotional manipulation, relational trauma, and the complex aftermath of toxic dynamics.

As my practice grows, I am hand-selecting therapists who embody the same values that have shaped The Phoenix In Every Human Being: compassion, integrity, cultural awareness, and a deep belief in each person’s capacity to rise again. I am also working to become a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor by summer 2026, so I can mentor the next generation of therapists with excellence and heart.

We are based in Dallas, and recently moved into our beautiful new office near the Galleria Mall, where our team offers in-person sessions in a peaceful and welcoming environment. In addition to in-person care, our growing team also provides telehealth sessions throughout the entire state of Texas, ensuring clients can access compassionate, high-quality support wherever they are.

My vision includes expanding collaborative care, including partnerships with psychiatrists, psychologists, and other professionals, while maintaining a deeply personalized and culturally aware approach to provide comprehensive, whole-person care.

What makes you happy?
My happiness is rooted in presence and connection.

Nothing brings me more joy than being with my family and watching my children grow. Being present for their milestones, the big celebrations, and the quiet, tender moments is one of the greatest gifts of my life.

I also find happiness in nurturing living things and in decorating for the holidays. I am a plant mom, and caring for my indoor plants brings me peace. Gardening outdoors allows me to connect with the earth, and decorating for holidays fills my home with beauty and joy.

Travel is another passion. I love exploring new cultures, learning different ways of living, and admiring architecture that carries centuries of history. Walking historic streets or through ancient buildings inspires me to imagine the stories they hold, offering fresh perspectives on the human experience.

Professionally, my happiness comes from learning, and it is where I feel most alive, like a fish in water. Deepening my knowledge and refining my craft allows me to provide the highest level of care for my clients. I find immense joy in witnessing transformation: seeing clients rise from old wounds, reconnect with themselves, and build healthier, more meaningful lives. Every breakthrough, no matter how small, reminds me why I do this work.

THE PHOENIX IN EVERY HUMAN BEING

The name of my practice, The Phoenix in Every Human Being, was born from my own story.

Like the phoenix, I have had to rise from the ashes again and again, shedding old versions of myself and emerging stronger, wiser, and more radiant. Reinvention and evolution have been my greatest teachers. Healing has been my greatest journey, and transformation is the gift I now help others uncover within themselves.

Every person has a phoenix inside, a part that knows how to rise, evolve, and shine.

It is my greatest honor to walk alongside people as they discover that power within.
