Hi John, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Dr. John L. Burns is a board-certified plastic surgeon with over 25 years of experience, renowned as one of the most sought-after aesthetic surgeons in Dallas, across North Texas, the United States, and around the world. Specializing exclusively in cosmetic plastic surgery, Dr. Burns has built a reputation for combining surgical artistry with compassionate care. He leads a boutique plastic surgery practice that includes Jola Aesthetics Medical Spa and his private, AAAASF-accredited surgical center, 9201 Park Plastic Surgery, PLLC—a serene, state-of-the-art setting designed to deliver world-class results in a calm and caring environment.
Dr. Burns is a graduate of Highland Park High School and Vanderbilt University. He graduated summa cum laude from the Research Honors Program at Vanderbilt and The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). As one of the top students, he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Burns then completed his plastic surgery training in the integrated program at UTMB, where he also pursued additional expertise in aesthetic surgery in Miami, FL and microvascular surgery at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. After residency, Dr. Burns became the first plastic surgeon in the United States to complete a fellowship in laser surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center . Dr. Burns maintains an active interest in academic plastic surgery through teaching and research endeavors.
Dr. Burns is nationally known for his expertise in laser surgery, cosmetic breast and body surgery, fat transfer, and facial rejuvenation, including neuromodulators, biostimulators, lasers, and soft tissue fillers. As medical director of the Jola Aesthetic Medical Spa, Dr. Burns conducts research studies and has a keen interest in the advancement and cooperation between the pharmaceutical industry and private practice with the goal of improving the safety and efficacy of relevant devices, drugs, and procedures.
Dr. Burns operates at 9201 Park Plastic Surgery, his on-site AAAASF-approved plastic surgery specific surgical center. All staff are specially trained in plastic surgery and are ACLS certified. For interested patients, he coordinates post operative overnight care with The PostOp Collective where patients receive one-on-one nursing care. Jole Aesthetics Medical Spa rounds out Dr. Burns’ full-service boutique.
Dr. Burns has also been recognized for many years by SuperDoctors and Newsweek Magazine as one of the best plastic surgeons in Texas and the United States respectively in the categories of Facelift, Blepharoplasty, Liposuction, Tummy Tuck, Rhinoplasty, and Breast Augmentation.
Dr. Burns is married to Ann Burns, a graduate of Wake Forest University and the University of Texas Law School. Ann is a trademark attorney. They have three wonderful children, Jack (21), David (19), and Lucy (16). Dr. Burns is a member of the Park Cities Presbyterian Church. He is also an elite masters runner and competes annually in The New York City Marathon and the Boston Marathon, with a personal best time of 2:45.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always challenges. Standing out as an elite plastic surgeon in a crowded market is the biggest challenge. Marketing is a constantly evolving necessity. With all the changes I just remind myself to do my very best for each and every patient and try and not worry about the ebbs and flows in our business. If I can do the absolute best for each and every patient then I know everything will be fine and continue to grow. I believe in my training and ability to deliver the very best results.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I have many support professionals. I collaborate with a physician assistant in Midland, Texas, Nicole Stennett, who runs a first class medical spa in Midland where I see patients monthly in Midland. I also collaborate with a plastic surgery recovery massage therapist, Heather Evans who runs a plastic surgery recovery center called BodyRx. I also coordinate with manual lymphatic therapists, MiaMassage, who have a concierge massage service where they come to your home after surgery. I collaborate with a recovery service, The Post Op Collective, where nurses pick up my patients from my surgery center and have a hotel suite at the Crescent Hotel where they recover the patients. I collaborated with Elite Health and Hormone where my patients can do a virtual consultation with a nurse practitioner and get GLP-1 weight loss medication, hormone therapy, and peptides.
