Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Bishop.
Hi Joshua, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas. Where I come from, you learn early that nothing’s handed to you. I didn’t grow up with a lot, but I always had big vision and drive. Fitness started out as an outlet, something to clear my head. Over time it became my foundation and my way of finding purpose.
Bodybuilding taught me discipline, patience, and how to push through pain. It helped me build confidence and gave me something I could control when life felt out of control. Eventually, I took that passion to the stage and became an undefeated men’s physique athlete. But the real win wasn’t the trophies. It was realizing how much fitness could change lives on every level (mentally, physically, spiritually, and financially.)
That’s what inspired me to build Jungle Squad Athletics. It’s more than training; it’s a movement. My mission is to help people Conquer Their Kingdom: to build strength inside and out, create structure, and find a community that truly supports growth. From my Trail Tribe hikes on Sundays to the clients I train every week, I’ve seen how one person’s transformation can create a ripple effect that touches families and whole communities.
Today, I’m not just training bodies, I’m building leaders. My goal is to keep creating spaces where people can find belonging, discipline, and purpose the same way I did through fitness.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s definitely not been a smooth road. My biggest fight has always been with myself. Believing in my own vision when nobody else could see it, that was hard. There were days I’d question if I was really doing enough, or if what I was building even mattered. As a trainer, you give so much to everybody else, but some days you wake up and realize you’re the one running on empty.
Mentally, it was heavy at times. I’ve dealt with doubt, stress, and isolation, trying to hold everything together while keeping that same energy for others. When business was slow or life got rough, it tested me. I had to learn how to still show up, even when my mind wasn’t in the best place, and how to protect my peace while helping other people find theirs.
What kept me going was faith, discipline, and purpose. I had to remind myself that comfort never built a king. Every time I made it through a dark season, I came out sharper and stronger. That’s why I tell people, your struggle isn’t your weakness; it’s where your power’s built.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Jungle Squad Athletics is more than fitness. It’s a movement built around discipline, mindset, and community. My mission is to help people Conquer Their Kingdom by building strength in every area of life: the physical, the mental, the spiritual, and the financial.
Those are what I call the Four Pillars of the Kingdom. When your body is right, your mind becomes clear. When your mind is clear, you align with your purpose. When you’re aligned with your purpose, you find peace. And when you move in peace and purpose, your needs are met, even financially. Each pillar connects to the other, and you can’t truly grow if one of them is weak.
I offer personal training, online coaching, mobility and recovery programs, boot camps, and my free Sunday Trail Tribe hikes. I’m also in the process of forming a Dallas Calisthenics community, a free and open space for people across the city to train and grow together through bodyweight movement and strength.
What I’m most proud of is the community that’s grown out of Jungle Squad Athletics. Whether it’s my in-person clients, online clients, or the people who join our hikes and events, everyone moves with the same energy — growth, accountability, and family. When we come together, it’s bigger than fitness. It’s a culture built on becoming better, supporting each other, and showing up with purpose inside and outside the gym.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Absolutely, just a message to everyone. Be builders of your own kingdom whether you are apart of Jungle Squad Athletics or not. Keep God first and always strive to be your best physically, mentally, and spiritually
