Community Highlights: Meet Kali Andrews of Petticoat Fair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kali Andrews

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Petticoat Fair opened in 1964 on Guadalupe Street in Austin, Tx. Owners Bob and Betty Andrews’ concept was to provide service to all women in need of intimate apparel. The principles of bra fitting and customer service have remained the same since the store’s opening: Every woman is treated with respect and given one-on-one attention to help her feel comfortable and confident in properly fitted undergarments. The techniques Betty learned in corsetiere school and other training courses are still used in the store today, which is now owned by their youngest son, Kirk Andrews and his daughters, Kali and Kristi Andrews.

The entire Petticoat Fair team is committed to continuing and expanding on the tradition of serving women which has been the foundation of Petticoat Fair since 1964.

In 2022 Petticoat Fair acquired Loretta’s Intimates in Plano bringing their broad range of sizes, styles & exceptional customer service to the women in North Texas & beyond

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning a business for 60 years always has it’s ups and downs. We’ve been through many recessions, multiple presidencies & policy changes, social and economic changes as well as being in 2 of the fastest growing cities in America, Austin and Dallas. Covid was a tough time for business, but luckily our customer base is loyal and love supporting small local businesses so they are the reason we survived those couple years. Our biggest struggle at the moment is advertising and spreading the word to new Texas residents. Our strongest advertisement has always been our customers and word of mouth, but with the cities growing as fast as they have over the last few years we feel like there’s definitely more to be done to spread the word, especially about our newest North Texas location!

We’ve been impressed with Petticoat Fair, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are one of the largest specialty lingerie stores in the country. We’re recognized not only nationally, but internationally as well. We specialize in fitting women of all sizes, shapes and socio-economic backgrounds with properly fitted undergarments, swimwear, sleepwear and even some ready to wear. We carry over 100 sizes! We are most proud of our customer service and being able to keep a family business thriving and growing for 3 generations.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
All of our success wouldn’t be possible today without Bob and Betty Andrews who realized that women had no where to go for proper undergarments. They’re the ones who built the foundation of our business and the core principals not only for the business, but for our family. These principals are what keeps our business integrity and what our customers love about us. So many of our customers shopped with Betty decades ago who now bring in their daughters and grand-daughters. Being a multi-generational family business is special, but what is even more special is being able to share all of our success with our customers who have shopped with us for multiple generations.
