Community Highlights: Meet Karsten Williams of Ninja Project

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karsten Williams

Hi Karsten, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Plano, TX, where I was a top hurdler at Plano East High School. As a kid, I was captivated by American Ninja Warrior, always tuning in to watch contestants tackle those incredible obstacles. After about three years into my personal training career at a major commercial gym, I decided to apply for the show. To my surprise, I was selected just 30 days later.

My first season didn’t go as planned—I fell on the very first obstacle. But that initial failure fueled my determination, and I soon began to find success, eventually becoming a household name. This journey opened up exciting opportunities for me, from leading workshops to attending grand openings, and even traveling the world. These experiences inspired me to open my own Ninja gym brand.

Later, I was approached by a prominent obstacle facility brand to spearhead a new concept in Frisco as their Head Coach and National Director. From 2018 to 2022, I played a key role in growing the brand into the leading franchise in the space. Our team accomplished amazing things during that time, including producing several National Champions and building a thriving business.

In early 2022, when the company decided to pivot in a new direction, I took the leap to start my own brand, Ninja Project. We launched our Mobile Ninja Course in the spring of 2024, and the response has been incredible. We’ve already done some amazing events, with many more lined up for the rest of the year. Our big goal is to open a state-of-the-art functional experience center by the spring of 2025!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road; there have been plenty of obstacles along the way. Some entities didn’t want me operating in this space, and even some people close to me doubted my ability to start a successful business. Instead of letting that discourage me, I used it as motivation, adding fuel to the fire to prove the doubters wrong and serve as an example for others who dream of starting their own business.

As a budding entrepreneur, I faced many challenges, including securing funding to get the venture off the ground and developing a solid business model that could thrive in a competitive market. However, my deep motivation to make a positive impact on the youth has kept me focused. Through persistence and unwavering commitment to my dream, I’ve been able to overcome those challenges.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
