Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Montgomery.
Hi Kathleen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey has been anything but linear, and I’ve learned to see that as part of God’s design.
I was born in Liberia, West Africa, and immigrated to the United States at the age of ten. From a young age, I carried a deep sense of responsibility, resilience, and creativity—qualities that were shaped by my upbringing, my faith, and life’s early transitions. Hair became one of my first outlets. What started as styling for family and friends was never just about hair for me; it was about care, connection, and confidence.
For many years, I balanced life as a mother, wife, and working professional while quietly nurturing this gift. Eventually, God began to press on my heart that what I carried was more than a hobby—it was an assignment. Stepping out on faith, I founded BlessedHands by Kathleen K, a brand rooted in excellence, intention, and service. I specialize in natural hair care, locs, and protective styling, but at the core of my work is creating a safe space where people feel seen, restored, and empowered.
The journey hasn’t been without challenges. I’ve navigated seasons of uncertainty, fear, people-pleasing, and starting over—both personally and professionally. But each season refined me. I learned to shift from a hustle mindset to a purpose-driven one, trusting God not just with my faith, but with my business, my voice, and my calling.
Today, BlessedHands is more than a salon—it’s a ministry, a community, and an extension of my testimony. I’m also an author, educator, and mentor, passionate about helping others—especially women and creatives—build with intention, walk in freedom, and lead with faith. Where I am now is the result of obedience, growth, and grace, and I’m excited about what’s still unfolding.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road—and I’ve come to understand that the rough places were just as necessary as the wins.
One of my biggest struggles was learning to trust myself and the calling God placed on my life. For a long time, I wrestled with fear—fear of failing, fear of being seen, and fear of stepping fully into purpose. I also had to confront people-pleasing, which often showed up disguised as service. I gave so much of myself that I sometimes neglected boundaries, rest, and my own growth.
Balancing family, faith, and entrepreneurship was another challenge. Building a business while being present as a wife and mother required constant adjustments, sacrifice, and grace. There were seasons of financial uncertainty, moments of doubt, and times when I questioned whether I was doing “enough” or moving fast enough.
I’ve also had to navigate loss of relationships, expectations, and versions of myself that no longer fit where God was taking me. Those moments were painful, but they taught me how to surrender control, release comparison, and walk in obedience rather than approval.
Every struggle refined my character and strengthened my faith. What once felt like setbacks became lessons that shaped how I lead, create, and serve today. The journey taught me that success isn’t about perfection or speed—it’s about obedience, resilience, and staying aligned with God through every season.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
BlessedHands by Kathleen K is a faith-led natural hair care brand built on excellence, intention, and service. At its core, my business exists to help people feel confident, cared for, and restored—both inside and out.
I specialize in natural hair care with a strong focus on locs, protective styling, and healthy hair maintenance. My work includes starter locs, loc maintenance, retwists, braids, and customized services that prioritize scalp health and long-term hair integrity. I’m known for my attention to detail, consistency, and the care I take in educating my clients about their hair—not just styling it.
What truly sets my brand apart is the experience. From the moment a client sits in my chair, they’re entering a safe, intentional space. I believe hair care is personal, and I approach each appointment with patience, prayer, and purpose. My clients know they’re not just another booking—they’re seen, heard, and valued.
I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built with my clients and community. Many of them have grown with me through different seasons of life, and that loyalty means everything to me. Brand-wise, I’m also proud of how BlessedHands has expanded beyond the chair. I’m an author and educator, and I use my platform to mentor and encourage beauty professionals to shift from hustle to purpose, build sustainable businesses, and lead with integrity.
I want readers to know that BlessedHands by Kathleen K is not about trends—it’s about stewardship. Stewardship of the gift God gave me, stewardship of people, and stewardship of purpose. Everything I offer—whether it’s a service, a word of encouragement, or education—is rooted in care, excellence, and faith. My brand is a reflection of obedience, and I’m committed to continuing to serve with clean hands and a pure heart.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex is the diversity and opportunity. This city is full of people from different backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life, and that creates space for creativity, entrepreneurship, and growth. There’s a strong sense of community here—especially among small business owners and creatives—where collaboration is encouraged and support is real. I also appreciate how much room there is to build something meaningful here if you’re willing to show up consistently and serve well.
What I like least, if I’m being honest, is how fast-paced everything can be. The grind culture can sometimes overshadow rest, presence, and genuine connection. It’s easy to get caught up in doing more, producing more, and moving faster, even when that pace isn’t healthy or sustainable. I’ve had to be intentional about slowing down, setting boundaries, and staying aligned with my values in a city that never really stops moving.
Overall, I’m grateful to build my life and business here. This city has stretched me, supported me, and given me room to grow—not just professionally, but personally and spiritually as well.
