Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Murphy.
Hi Kendra, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been in love with beautiful interiors and fashion for as long as I can remember. Both go hand in hand if you ask me. My favorite pastime was looking through magazines, swooning over the latest trends in fashion and interior design. Being from a small town in Mississippi, I wasn’t expose to any interior designers to model. If I’d known back then that becoming an interior designer was a viable career option, it would’ve easily been my choice of profession. Instead, I went with a more conventional route and became a registered nurse. I love it as well, but all while I was in school and after, I never lost my affection for interior design and fashion. I kept myself abreast of all the latest trends with a myriad number of magazines I still purchased. I moved to Texas after grad school to pursue my career as a nurse anesthetist and enjoyed every bit of it, but after 6 1/2 years, I took a leap of faith and officially started Murphy Motifs. I love to make a difference and see that difference in someone’s life. I’m very service oriented and that’s the common denominator between the two. Helping people see and feel their best self is the best reward anyone can receive.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
For the most part it has been relatively smooth. I knew right away if I wanted any success or any chance at success, I needed to first find a mentor. I lucked up and found not only an interior designer, but a black interior designer in my city! Her name is Chanda Kea of Kea Interiors. She introduced me to my new jungle and equipped me with the knowledge to gain the confidence I needed to become successful in the business.
It’s so important to have someone to show you the ropes and support you while you build yourself up. I’ve had my moments of “What in the world am I doing?!” and “Is this really what I should be doing?!”, but they’ve been happening less and less the more confident I become and having someone who has been where I am to encourage me. I’ve realized the only thing or person that could ever impede my success is me and my mindset. This entrepreneurial journey is definitely a spiritual one and you’ll quickly come to terms with who you are and who you need to be to succeed. The saying, “Every new level in your life requires a new you!” is so true!!

We’re a residential and commercial interior design firm located in McKinney serving the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. We specialize in creating spaces that reflect our client’s authentic self to inspire and motivate them to see their full potential. Creating a successfully beautiful authentic space requires great communication and using all your senses, especially your sixth sense (intuition). Great communication also fosters trust, which ultimately gives way to the freedom to stretch our clients creatively to produce the designs they’ve dreamed about.

For those locals who are busy and on the go, we offer full design services where we handle everything from the beginning to the beautiful reveal. We also offer our E-Design services for those DIY enthusiasts, who need a little help keeping their design cohesive, no matter where you live. Other services we offer are color consultation, design consultation, 3-D wall art, and walk and talk occupied staging consultation. Whatever your design needs, we offer you an experience that is unique to you.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
During this Covid-19 crisis, I have learned to trust myself and always do the things that make me smile. Life is not promised and that has become more evident during this time. I’m more gentle with myself and compassionate towards others. I’ve also learned innovative ways to do business or pushed myself to becoming more digital with my business. Most of all I’ve learned to have the patience of Job, dealing with the industry delays and shortages. Lol!
