Community Highlights: Meet Kenneth Shittu of Shisty Clothing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Shittu.

Kenneth, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, to bring it all back in 2017, the idea of a clothing line had been lingering in the air for a while from just being a lover of streetwear fashion and sneaker culture from a young age, I was always known as the kid with all the “Kicks.” Fast forward after highschool I find myself at a school in San Antonio for college on a soccer scholarship. After my first semester, I found myself just not happy with the situation with the team and turned my focus towards this passion/hobby for clothing and style. So I dipped into the idea of creating a brand for myself. Not really doing any research or anything I dove headfirst and sourced my first piece, which was from ebay. A dozen suede trucker hats. And green cotton hats with a bunch of iron in patches. And the brand was born. And I know yall are curious as to how the name even came about. And to be honest with you all reading this, it was just a gift from God. Just in the manner that it came about and how it was spelt. The word shisty is commonly spelt with an “E” so “SHIESTY” but me being oblivious to that I spelt it without it & “SHISTY” was basically born. I can’t remember exactly where I got the word from but I liked how it sounded and ran with it.

From the first hats to my first pieces of clothing that I premiered at my schools little auditorium where I held my first fashion show. Stuff came quickly. And not to say it was easy cause it wasn’t. I had to learn everything about owning a brand / business at a very young age, at times it was hard just cause think of 18 year old you and what you and your friends were concerned about at that time. Yeah nothing business. But I always knew that Shisty was something I wanted to make into a global thing so I dedicated time and effort into perfecting my craft and building a name for myself. I think the day I knew I was in the right path was when I got the call from British GQ magazine to be featured in their featured collections page. I thought it was fake at first but once I got the call and heard the PR’s British accent I knew it was real. Fast forward today. Shisty in a staple brand in the whole state of Texas and expanding to LA and other city’s in the USA. From our famous BaLLPLAYA Shorts to our exclusive limited-edition releases, I am happy to say Shisty is growing and we will soon have stores all over the USA. Shisty is the definition of youthful color expressed by what I see and colorful Streetwear fashion from my cultural background perspective

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey to where we are now as a brand has been a long one. The struggles of running a whole brand alone has definitely not been an easy one. Diving head first into an industry with no guidance is such a tasking thing to do, it really does build strong skin. Along the way, I have learned that hard work will eventually get you to where you wanna be. Every aspect of producing clothing has to be accounted for, photoshoots, editing, marketing etc. all these things were stuff that I struggled with just learning how to do things so when the time comes and this is a global brand I know what to look for when hiring for the company.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Shisty Clothing?

I definitely have gained a lot of knowledge from a few podcasts in the past few years, such as Million dollars of game. I am athlete and much more. I also have used the Bible as a guide to stay humble and level-headed through the whole process of trying to grow the brand into what it is today.
