Community Highlights: Meet Kimberly Borges and Miriam McDonald of PWR WMN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Borges and Miriam McDonald.

PWR WMN was started by Kimberly and Miriam. We met in college and a few years after graduating, we ended up working for the same company selling luxury automotive vehicles. Car sales is a very male-dominated industry and compared to our male counterparts we never felt prepared. Their suit jackets had pockets for their business cards, a pen to close a deal, room for test drive keys and we didn’t have that. We also felt that business professional clothes for women mirrored men’s clothing and those clothes did not make us feel confident or portrayed our true selves. This is where the idea of PWR WMN was born. We make functional and feminine blazers for women with pockets so that they can carry business cards, lipsticks, credit cards, pens, feminine products and feel 100% ready at all times!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. We started our business right before COVID-19, so we did lose a lot of momentum when everything started closing and people started working from home. One of the ways that we promote our brand is by going to events and setting up a booth with our blazers, and throughout COVID we had to learn to pivot and have more of an online presence.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
PWR WMN was created by two best friends who wanted a simple thing: pockets in our blazers. We grew tired of never having the tools we needed to be 100% ready for business at all times because we never had the pockets for those tools. We wanted clothes that helped us portray ourselves like the Power Women we are, but also helped us close that deal because we were ready, so we created PWR WMN. Our clothes don’t hide your femininity to make you look strong or business like, they highlight the strength our femininity brings to the table, and the extra pockets don’t hurt either! No matter if it’s a meeting, a lunch or a business trip: we’re here to take charge of our fashion, take ownership of the tools we need to succeed, and take command of our future. A future that’s female. With equality and functional pockets for all.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We love working with other business and we love the relationships we have built by working with others. You can also reach us by email at kimberly@pwrwmnshop.com or Miriam@pwrwmnshop.com.
