Community Highlights: Meet Kristen Economaki of Real Spaces with Kristen LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Economaki

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a former educator, mom of 2, and a first-born elder millennial. So basically, I love working with people in a supportive role, am embracing a “lived in” home with my young kids (much like my clients), and am a recovering perfectionist who is letting go of unrealistic expectations for my home and for myself.

I wouldn’t say that I am a naturally organized or neat person, but I don’t believe those are fixed traits anyway. I believe that you can learn how to organize your things in a way that works for you, your space, and your real life. What started out as projects around my own house, then turned into being that friend who would come over to organize your closet with you, has now become a small business that I am really proud of, Real Spaces with Kristen LLC. I am so grateful to my clients who have trusted me to come into their homes and work with their families to bring more intentionality and order into their spaces.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Working with clients and organizing is my jam! The whole being an entrepreneur and running a business thing can be tricky (and lonely). While it is awesome to be your own boss and have autonomy with your schedule and the work you do, it also comes with taking on ALL the roles to keep it running. I’m constantly learning and growing.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I want to help you create a home that you love where you can be your best self. In order to do this, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable working with me. Asking for help is hard enough, and inviting someone into your home to see the spaces that stress you out is super vulnerable. I spend time getting to know you, your family, and your space before we begin a project. The more real and honest you are about how you want to feel in your home and what is holding you back, the better we can organize your space so that it is sustainable for the whole family.

When clients are able to work alongside me for the process, we get even deeper into how a space can function better for your family and also how it connects to other spaces in your home. I love it when clients come up with their own ideas and solutions for a space. You know your family and your home the best, and sometimes you just need a thought-partner to bounce ideas off of and to be there with you to actually do it. Organizing your own home is hard! It’s ok to ask for help.

One of my favorite things about this work is that there is no one right way to organize your space and every project I get to work on with clients is unique and so rewarding. We might go all out and use pretty, new bins and containers to make a totally fresh and aesthetically pleasing space, which is awesome and extra motivating for some people. We can also get creative and use what you already have in your home to reimagine how you organize your space. Oftentimes, it’s a mix of both. Either way, we are going to set up your space in a way that makes sense for your whole family and supports your real life.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
In addition to being a first-born daughter + elder millennial??? [Insert laughing face emoji]

I am from the Pacific Northwest, grew up playing all the sports, and loved to listen to music and learn all the lyrics to songs for epic car sing-alongs. When my sister and I were young, we loved pretend play. I would make realistic paper credit cards and checkbooks for “store” and for “school” I made detailed class schedules for our trapper keepers. I always had a diary (you will still see me with a notebook and pen) where I would write my thoughts, favorite song lyrics and also sketch plans for my dream home. I wanted to be a singer, a teacher, or an architect.
