Community Highlights: Meet Kyle Davis Degen of Wesley Wellness Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Davis Degen.

Kyle Davis Degen

Hi Kyle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a native Texan who, after attending college at Vanderbilt University and obtaining my law degree from Wake Forest University, returned to Dallas to begin my career as a corporate real estate and finance attorney. Ten-plus years later, and now a partner at my law firm, Locke Lord, I decided to expand my career to more fully live my purpose of promoting and celebrating the personal growth of women.

As a wife, mom of two young children, and full-time partner at a law firm, I know first-hand that we all lead busy, complicated lives that don’t always lend to taking care of oneself. I would often find myself bouncing from place to place, trying to squeeze in self-care in between working, kid-wrangling, and everything else. To satisfy the need for flexible, convenient access to health and wellness, I created Wesley – a female-forward health and wellness club that combines movement, restorative modalities, and social gatherings to foster community and overall well-being. Designed with women in mind but open to all, Wesley gives Dallas fitness practices, curative techniques, and multi-generational community experiences, all included within a single membership! Named after my daughter, Wesley is a love letter to her and to all women – meant to give us the space and opportunity to get what we need in order to take care of those we support, both personally and professionally.

Separately, I am a member of my firm’s Board of Directors. In my legal practice, I provide counsel in a variety of commercial real estate and finance transactions. I represent banks, insurance companies, and other institutional borrowers and lenders in commercial construction and term loans secured by industrial parks, senior healthcare facilities, multifamily projects, office buildings, retail shopping centers, and condominium projects. I also regularly assist clients in the acquisition, asset management, and disposition of various types of real property assets. Additionally, I have extensive experience in joint ventures, commercial leasing, health care, transportation, and hospitality transactions, as well as representing developers in connection with the construction and development of multifamily, retail, industrial, and mixed-use projects.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s no such thing as a smooth road to success. There are always bumps and struggles along the way which makes reaching the destination all the more worth it. It has been very hard to balance my time as an attorney, entrepreneur and mostly importantly a mother and a wife. Things come up in business at all hours of the day and night, and even harder than making the time to address them is having the discipline to delegate to my team members and trust that they can execute a resolution. Finding and maintaining the balance of being present in every aspect of my life and relying on others to help as and when needed has been the hardest part for me, but learning and refining these skills is part of the journey that I am grateful for because these skills will translate into various aspects of my life going forward.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Wesley Wellness Club?
Wesley Wellness is a female-forward health and wellness club carefully curated to combine movement, restoration, and social gathering to foster community and overall well-being. Wesley is designed with women in mind and serves as a one-stop shop for the person on the go. At Wesley, one can take fitness classes, utilize our amenities (sauna, cold plunge, and lymphatic massage roller), and connect with others in our social gathering space. We want to encourage everyone, but especially women, to make and take the time to care for themselves so that they can more effectively care for others. We want our clientele to proudly increase the margins in their life, so that they aren’t constantly running on “low battery”. Wesley is designed to make all feel welcome, seen, and cared for in a community where everybody knows your name.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I would say to “take the leap.” There will always be fear masquerading as reasons why you shouldn’t follow your dreams, but breathe through that and chase what you want. Apart from that, I would encourage anyone just starting out to find a mentor or leadership coach. There are so many things that arise on a daily basis, and having someone that you can chat with, bounce ideas off of, and collaborate with to problem solve will be helpful, especially if that person has experience in the business in which you are involved or something similar.
