Community Highlights: Meet La-Shawnda Thompson of La-Shawnda’s House of Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to La-Shawnda Thompson

Hi La-Shawnda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started in the beauty industry over a decade ago, working with prestigious brands like NARS, MAC, Estée Lauder, and Christian Dior. But my story goes beyond makeup. It’s about transformation, both inside and out.
As a single mother, I faced homelessness for two years, but God turned my pain into purpose.
I refused to let my circumstances define me. Instead, I leaned into my faith and stepped into entrepreneurship, launching La-Shawnda’s House of Beauty, where I empower women to see themselves the way God sees them beautiful, strong, and worthy. My journey expanded into authorship when I wrote I’m Not Ugly. God Made Me Beautiful, a book designed to help young girls build confidence and embrace their identity. That opened doors for me to share my story on platforms like NBC 5 News, where I was featured in From Homelessness to Literary Success.
Now, I continue to inspire women through my latest books, Discovering Your Identity: 31-Day Self-Discovery Journal and Crowned in Confidence. These books are designed to help women embrace their God-given identity and step into their confidence with boldness. Today, I’m walking in my calling as a beautypreneur, author, speaker, and faith-driven business strategist. I equip Kingdom creatives to build impactful brands while inspiring single mothers to thrive beyond survival. Every chapter of my story has been divinely orchestrated, and I’m just getting started.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. My journey has been anything but smooth, but every obstacle shaped me into the woman I am today. One of my biggest challenges was experiencing homelessness as a single mother. There were nights when I cried out to God, wondering if I would ever get out of survival mode. But in those dark moments, I learned how to trust Him like never before.
That season refined me, and it gave me the heart to uplift other women who feel unseen, unworthy, or stuck. Stepping into entrepreneurship was another challenge. I didn’t have a blueprint or financial backing. I had to build everything from the ground up while raising my daughters. There were times when I invested in my business before I even knew how the next bill would be paid. But I stayed faithful, kept learning, and refused to quit.I’ve also faced rejection and setbacks, doors that didn’t open, people who didn’t believe in my vision. But I learned that when God calls you, you don’t need the approval of man. Now, I’m walking in purpose, running multiple businesses, and helping women transform their lives.
The road hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. My testimony is proof that you can rise from anything when you have faith, strategy, and a willingness to keep going.

The COVID-19 crisis was a defining moment that taught me the power of adaptability, faith , and the importance of community. It forced me to pivot quickly, embracing digital products, online coaching, and virtual consultations to continue serving my clients. I learned that multiple streams of income aren’t just beneficial they’re essential. Instead of being paralyzed by uncertainty, I leaned into my faith, trusting that God had already provided the tools I needed to thrive. The pandemic also reinforced the value of connection and mentorship, showing me that we’re stronger together. It was a blessing to pivot from a full-time job to doing what I love while learning new skills, and I help women thrive in any season.
