Hi Lakell, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a deep love for animals. Since I was a child, I have felt a natural pull to help them in any way I could. I grew up in a small town called Paris, Texas, where pets were often seen as just that, pets. Many stayed outside and rarely visited the veterinarian. I always had a dog by my side, and every time I lost one, I would get another one. At one point, my doctor even advised my parents not to let me get another dog for a while because he saw how deeply I grieved each loss. That bond and connection I had with animals at such a young age is what led me to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
I have now been a veterinary technician for almost 13 years, and it has been such a rewarding experience. Over the years, I have learned so much, not just about medicine, but about compassion, patience, and the incredible bond between pets and the people who love them.
I have also seen firsthand how stressful vet visits can be for both pets and their owners. That is what inspired me to start T&B Pets. I wanted to create something that felt different, something built on understanding, kindness, and genuine care. The business is named in memory of my pets, Tinka and Tinkerbell, who are in doggy heaven, and Bella, who continues to be my daily reminder of why I do what I do. Their love and loyalty inspire me to keep making a difference.
T&B Pets focuses on making care more personal and less stressful, where pets can feel safe and owners feel supported. Becoming a veterinarian and expanding T&B Pets has always been my ultimate goal, and every step and decision I have made is bringing me closer to that dream. This is more than just a business. It is a reflection of everything I have learned, the love I have for animals, and my belief that they deserve comfort, respect, and gentle care in every moment. It has been a journey full of growth, challenges, and heart, but I would not trade it for anything
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. I graduated high school in 2009, and since then, life has taken me through so many chapters. I have been married, divorced, became a veterinary technician, joined the military, completed my prerequisites for veterinary school, and raised a son who will be 15 this November!
One of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make was joining the military and leaving my son for seven months while I was deployed. It was one of the most challenging times of my life, but it taught me strength, discipline, and the importance of perseverance. Joining the military became a stepping stone toward a bigger goal and reminded me what I am truly capable of.
Balancing a full time career in veterinary medicine, continuing my education, being the best mom I can be, and growing T&B Pets has not always been easy. There have been long days, sleepless nights, and moments when I questioned if I could really do it all. But looking back, I have learned that growth does not come from comfort, it comes from pushing through the hard moments and believing in your purpose.
Every part of my journey has shaped the person I am today. It has taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of staying focused on your “why.” Sometimes you have to make sacrifices now to build the future you dream of and that is exactly what keeps me going.
We’ve been impressed with T&B Pets, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
T&B Pets is all about making pet care easier, more personal, and way less stressful. I am a licensed veterinary technician with over 10 years of experience, and after working in clinics for so long, I saw how anxious pets could get just walking through the door. That is what inspired me to create a mobile, in home service where pets can get the same quality care in the comfort of their own home.
I specialize in providing compassionate, professional care that meets pets where they are happiest, right at home! Whether it is pet sitting, nail trims, or just helping pet parents administer medications, my goal is to make every experience calm, positive, and convenient.
What really sets T&B Pets apart is the heart behind it. I take time to get to know each pet, build trust, and make sure they feel safe. Every animal is different, and I believe they deserve care that matches their personality and comfort level.
More than anything, I want readers to know that T&B Pets is not just a service, it’ is a passion and my life purpose. When you book with me, you are inviting someone into your home who truly loves animals and treats them like family.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family has been my greatest support system. Without their help and encouragement, this journey would not have been possible. From caring for my son while I was in school and serving in the military to giving me positive affirmations when I needed them most. They have been there from the very beginning, and I know they will continue to be.
My sister Tiffany, especially, has played such a huge role. She has helped me proofread many papers for college and guided me through the ins and outs of starting a business.
My son and my best friend have also been on this journey with me since 2010. He was the perfect baby, and now he is growing into an amazing young man. I thank him for understanding why I had to go away for those months when he was five years old. Back then, he did not quite understand. Now he realizes that sometimes we have to make sacrifices to reach where we are meant to be. Because of that sacrifice, both my college and his future college are paid for, along with other incredible benefits.
I am so thankful and blessed for every single one of them. Their love, patience, and support never go unnoticed.
And once T&B Pets becomes the multimillion dollar company I know it will be, everyone is getting their dream home or car. That’s a promise!
