Community Highlights: Meet LaShonda Hill of LaShonda Hill The Experience

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaShonda Hill.

Hi LaShonda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my journey in the beauty industry more than 26 years ago, with a passion for hairstyling and a desire to make people feel beautiful and confident. Over the years, that passion grew into LaShonda Hill The Experience, where I specialize in short hair, pixie styles, quick weaves, and custom wig design through my brand, Chapeaux by LaShonda Hill.

As I continued to grow, I realized my purpose extended far beyond the salon. I wanted to educate, encourage, and create opportunities for others, which led me to teaching, mentoring, hosting events, and creating my annual Cap Camp Boot Camp for stylists.

My journey has also inspired me to become an author. My first book, Bloom Where You’re Planted, was born from my personal experiences and the lessons I’ve learned about faith, resilience, growth, and finding purpose in every season of life. Writing allowed me to share the wisdom I’ve gained in a different way.

Today, I see myself as more than a hairstylist. I am an entrepreneur, educator, author, mentor, and builder of legacy. Everything I do is rooted in the desire to help people recognize their value, embrace their journey, and understand that they can bloom wherever God has planted them.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not always been a smooth road. Building a career and a brand over 26 years has required consistency, sacrifice, and the willingness to keep evolving. I’ve had to navigate changes in the beauty industry, financial uncertainty, moments of self-doubt, and the challenge of growing a global vision while working from a smaller community.

Balancing business, family, motherhood, and personal responsibilities has also taught me how to remain committed even when life becomes demanding. There were seasons when I had to rebuild, make difficult decisions, and continue moving forward without having all the answers.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that obstacles do not always mean you are on the wrong path. Sometimes they are developing your character, strengthening your faith, and preparing you for the next level. My faith in God has helped me remain grounded, and every challenge has added depth to the message I now share through my business, my teaching, and my book, Bloom Where You’re Planted.

The road has not been perfect, but every challenge has helped shape me into the woman, entrepreneur, educator, and author I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
LaShonda Hill The Experience is a beauty, education, and lifestyle brand founded by LaShonda Hill, a short-hair specialist, international wig designer, educator, mentor, author, and entrepreneur with more than 26 years of experience.

Through my salon services in Waynesboro, Mississippi, I specialize in short cuts, pixie styles, quick weaves, and customized looks designed to enhance each client’s natural beauty and individuality. Through Chapeaux by LaShonda Hill, I create custom short wigs and partial units for clients worldwide, including women experiencing alopecia or undergoing cancer treatment.

I am also the creator of Cap Camp, an annual hands-on boot camp designed to educate, encourage, and empower hairstylists through practical training, mentorship, and real-world techniques.

What sets my brand apart is my commitment to longevity over trends. I focus on healthy hair, realistic styling, client trust, quality education, and building a name that lasts. I want readers to know that LaShonda Hill The Experience is more than a salon—it is an experience rooted in beauty, confidence, creativity, education, and legacy.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is living a life that honors God, serves others, and leaves a meaningful legacy. My faith keeps me grounded, while my family reminds me why purpose, perseverance, and integrity matter.

I care deeply about helping people feel beautiful, confident, and capable—whether I’m serving a client, teaching a stylist, encouraging a reader, or creating opportunities through Cap Camp. I want my work to extend beyond the moment and positively impact people’s lives.

Ultimately, I want to be remembered not only for the styles I created, but for the confidence I restored, the knowledge I shared, and the people I helped believe in themselves.
