Community Highlights: Meet Lauren Dillard of Urgency PR

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Dillard

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am from Arlington, Texas, I love my hometown and I am heavily involved in the city and I think that’s how most people know me. I think all publicists have a story of how we used to get in trouble for talking all the time and that is basically my start in loving the media and journalism. I was first interested in journalism but I never wanted to be in the newsroom even though behind the scenes it is so much fun to watch news anchors but I looked at alternative ways to still be involved in media and journalism. I wanted to find something I loved (being a yapper) and get paid for it so Public Relations was the perfect fit. I graduated from The University of North Texas in 2021 with a degree in Journalism and a focus on Public Relations. I started off interning for a couple of publicists in Dallas and learned so much. I started freelancing after that and went on to work with politicians and community leaders. I used to watch the news a lot with my parents and they always educated me about voting and history so that sparked my interest in elections and local government. I originally started my business in 2022 but we just went through a much-needed rebrand in 2024 and officially launched. I love interviews, events, and social media and I believe these are areas in the media space that are important so I wanted my business to offer services to help people in those areas.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Many challenges, every day, but I love the challenges. Some challenges I faced during my rebrand was finding a new name that I loved cause I was married to the original name but I love my new business name now. Another challenge was finding my niche. In PR there are so many different things you can do and different industries you can serve so I wanted to narrow down on the services I offer and really focus on the areas where I can showcase my expertise. Another challenge was actually forming the business. I did not want to make any mistakes but taking risks, asking questions, and making some mistakes are necessary.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising… hmm, It surprises people that I am left-handed. People always notice it and say something about it so I like to notice when other people are left-handed. Also, I am a little shy when people first meet me which is another challenge in PR cause it’s all about relationships, and being outgoing makes the job a little easier.
