Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Johnson.
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I took a leap of faith when opening this business. I have taken the past 5 years off from my career to raise my family. When entering back into the workforce, I wanted to do something that could reach and empower women. What better way to start than opening a women-owned glam service business?
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a women-owned business comes with its own unique set of challenges and opportunities. Signing a lease and making all contractual obligations in January prior to the pandemic was no different. Construction had to go on and doors had to open at the height of the pandemic with no financial backing or PPP to be had due to the timing circumstances. When most would run away from opening a business (and trust me I wanted to) I chose to run towards it. The challenge made us stronger and we developed an amazing team of stylists and staff and they are building a fantastic, loyal customer base.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are offering more than just a hairstyle; we are offering an experience. We are striving to empower women by creating a warm, welcome and inclusive environment and provide an experience which leaves women feeling beautiful from the inside out. A place where they can come sit down and have a cup of coffee or glass of wine and relax. I want to create something to inspire not only my own children but also other female entrepreneurs, along with our staff. The reality is a salon is only as good as the team that operates it. We strive to develop a culture that develops our team not only as stylist but also as businesswomen and as people.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I was born and raised in Arlington, Texas and love many things about it. I love the community, culture, the people, and of course the fashion and style! One of the fascinating opportunities in Arlington has been the transition from a largely commuter city into an entertainment hub and driver of local economic growth. The salon is located in North Arlington directly across from the fast-growing community of Viridian, near HEB, the DFW Airport, as well as the vibrant entertainment district Arlington has built.
