Today we’d like to introduce you to Martin Herrera.
Martin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up, my dad had me help him with all the projects around the house. So, from a young age, I was introduced to all things construction. We added a large addition to our home where I got to see firsthand everything it took to plan and build. As an adult, life had taken me away from my hometown of Amarillo, Texas, and onto a journey through Missouri and Florida, where I had the opportunity to work and learn positions ranging from retail customer service, banking, sales, and even started my own construction company in Florida. The great State of Texas and the economy brought my family back in 2016. Shortly after, I was hired to work in Sales and Project Management for a roofing company here in DFW. I quickly found that this new role was perfect for all of my experience and training I received throughout the years. It was a joy learning how to implement those skills and I found a career I really enjoyed. After a few years, customers and colleagues began encouraging and asking me when I was going to start my own company. The support of customers, family, and friends encouraged me to step back out on my own and bring Chief Cornerstone to Texas. I was hesitant to pursue a new business venture in the midst of the Covid pandemic but thankfully I trusted my gut feeling that the timing was right and launching Chief Cornerstone Roofing and Construction has been a success!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every company and business will have their own struggles, thankfully I see ours as pretty minimal and for the most part, it has been a smooth journey. Thankfully I have been able to build a great team that takes pride in their work and reputation, which has been very helpful in operating successfully without many issues.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
There’s a lot of speculation as to what the construction industry is going to look like in the next 5-10 years. Of course, material costs are only going to continue to rise and labor rates will as well. I could see the new residential construction slow down and people do more renovating/remodeling vs. building new homes. The relationship between general contractors and insurance companies are always changing but hopefully bringing required licensing for roofing trades can help clean up the industry and weed out the companies that are defrauding insurance companies and taking advantage of homeowners. Only time will tell.
