Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Mescher
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After graduating from the University of Virginia, I started my career as a Bone Marrow Transplant / Oncology Nurse at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago, IL. As I observed the technological innovation coming into the hospital, it became clear that my greatest potential would be realized by combining my love of medicine with my curiosity around medical innovation. After A LOT of NOs- I went on to enjoy a successful career managing and selling robots for Intuitive Surgical, Mako Surgical, Mazor Robotics and Neocis. All of which (with the exception of Neocis to date) enjoyed successful acquisition exits.
Over the last 10 years I transitioned into the private payor market of aesthetic medicine and plastic surgery which opened the door for opportunities to help nurses, like myself, realize greater potential in themselves through business ownership. My partners and I founded Tox and Tonic in 2021 with the goal of empowering women in medicine by offering a branded, membership based “plug and play” template for nurse injectors who were ready to launch their own practice but intimidated by the business side of self employment. We are passionate about developing clinical leaders who will go on to share their strategic visions within the community we are building at Tox and Tonic.
In addition to co-founding Tox and Tonic, I recently founded MMM Leasing Ventures, a real estate investment firm focused on Private Money Lending, Private Equity Investments and Capital partnerships.
Building trust and developing meaningful relationships is the foundation of any successful business. I am passionate about contributing to the success of others and appreciate this opportunity to tell you about what I do!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a business is never easy! There are a lot of unknowns and being successful requires a lot of trial and error. If you are starting a business with partners, it is critical to acknowledge one another’s strengths and weaknesses and communicate regularly about strategy, budgets, goals and timelines. Highs and lows are the name of the game, the key is to remember that MINDSET IS EVERYTHING. When you think things aren’t going the way you had hoped, you always have the opportunity to pivot. Collaborate with your partners, or if you don’t have partners, with family, friends or other experts in your field. There are so many platforms today that make networking easier than it has ever been- but that means doing the work, going to meet ups and engaging FACE TO FACE with others in your field. Finding your community is essential to long term success.
