Community Highlights: Meet Paige Simpson of Paige Simpson Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Simpson

Hi Paige, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was a single mama, working full-time and going to school part-time to complete my college degree. My daughter was newly diagnosed with a rare genetic condition, Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome. We were back and forth from McKinney to Dallas to meet with different specialists and to attend testing appointments. To say I was overwhelmed is an understatement, but I would do it all over again for my sweet girl! As a way for me to tell my daughter’s story, I documented our journey by taking photos of her. I used my cell phone camera and my parent’s camera. I would setup little backdrops, put together cute outfits and poses. I was always passionate about taking photos of family and friends, but this was different for me. It filled my mama heart and fed a creativity I didn’t realize I had. Later, I purchased my own camera in hopes of starting a photography business. But to be completely honest, I didn’t even touch the camera for quite some time. I was promoted at my job and my life got even more hectic after that. There was also a part of me that was a little afraid to get going with a photography business. I didn’t really know where to start. One day I decided to take my camera out of the box and I charged up the battery. I practiced a lot and I watched more YouTube videos than I can count. I taught myself how to use the camera, how to edit photos, the ins and outs of a photography business, all of it. My first actual session for Paige Simpson Photography was a photoshoot of my beautiful cousin who modeled for me. I worked so hard on that session from scouting a location, to the poses and editing. I couldn’t wait to share my work and when I did it boosted my confidence. I continued scheduling photo sessions and the rest is history!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, not one bit smooth! How are we to learn or grow without there being bumps in the road? I believe we learn the most about ourselves when we are pushed beyond our comfort zone and are forced to navigate challenging situations in life. Going through a divorce, having a child with a newly diagnosed rare medical condition, working full time and trying to finish college all within the same year taught me that I was stronger than I even knew possible. I give all the glory to God because he gave me the strength that I needed to get through that time in my life. I couldn’t have done it without Him.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
When I started Paige Simpson Photography, I did it with the intention of telling other people’s stories through my photos. My hope was that anyone that sees my work truly feels the heart and emotion behind it. While I do posed sessions, I prefer to take candid shots that incorporate movement and show natural emotion. I’m very proud of some of my most recent maternity and lifestyle newborn sessions. I love getting detail shots at every session. The photos of tiny baby hands or feet. The holding of hands between a mama and little one. The little moments you don’t want to forget. I want to document those special memories for my clients so they can look back on them forever.
