Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Greener Pastures Farm Sanctuary began with a love for animals and a desire to give them a second chance. I had spent much of my career in the fitness industry, but over time, rescuing and helping farm animals became a calling that I could no longer ignore. What started with helping individual animals quickly grew into a much bigger vision.
In 2021, I officially began the rescue, taking in animals who had experienced neglect, abuse, injury, abandonment, or were at risk of going to a kill pen. Many arrived needing medical attention, rehabilitation, and, most importantly, a safe place where they could learn to trust people again.
As the number of animals needing help grew, so did the sanctuary. Today, Greener Pastures Farm Sanctuary is a 17-acre 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Whitesboro, Texas, dedicated to rescuing, fostering, rehabilitating, and finding forever homes for farm animals in need.
What began as a few animals and a desire to help has become a family and community effort. My husband, Michael, our children, grandchildren, volunteers, donors, and supporters have all played a part in making Greener Pastures what it is today.
For me, this has never been just about rescuing animals. It is about giving them the opportunity to heal, feel safe, and experience compassion. Every animal has a story, and every life is worth saving. What started as a passion has become my purpose—and we continue to take it one animal, one rescue, and one second chance at a time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. When I started Greener Pastures, I knew there would be challenges, but I don’t think I fully understood just how much would be involved in running a sanctuary and caring for animals with difficult histories.
One of the hardest parts has been seeing the condition some of these animals arrive in. They come to us scared, neglected, injured, or simply unsure of how to trust people. Watching an animal struggle and knowing that you can’t fix everything overnight can be incredibly difficult. Rehabilitation takes patience, time, veterinary care, and a tremendous amount of love.
There have also been the practical challenges of running a nonprofit—raising funds, covering veterinary and feed expenses, maintaining the property, finding volunteers, and constantly balancing how many animals we can responsibly take in with how many still need our help. There are always more animals that need rescuing than we have space or resources for, and saying “no” to an animal in need is one of the hardest parts of this work.
There have been exhausting days, heartbreaking losses, unexpected expenses, and moments when I have wondered how we are going to keep going. But then an animal that was once frightened begins to trust you, or an animal that came to us in terrible condition starts to thrive, and you remember exactly why you started.
The road hasn’t been easy, but every challenge has strengthened my commitment to this mission. The difficult moments have made the successes even more meaningful, and I wouldn’t trade the journey—or the animals we’ve been able to help—for anything.

Greener Pastures Farm Sanctuary is a place of rescue, rehabilitation, and second chances. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing abused, neglected, abandoned, and unwanted farm animals and giving them the time, care, and compassion they need to heal. Our work doesn’t end when an animal is rescued. We believe rescue is just the beginning.
We specialize in helping animals that often get overlooked. Many of the animals who come to us have experienced trauma, neglect, injury, or abandonment. We provide a safe environment where they can receive medical care, proper nutrition, rehabilitation, and, perhaps most importantly, learn to trust again. When an animal is ready, we work to carefully match them with a loving forever home when rehoming is appropriate.
What sets Greener Pastures apart is that we focus on the entire journey—not simply removing an animal from a bad situation, but helping that animal become healthy, confident, and ready for the next chapter of its life. We also believe strongly in education and advocacy and in creating a community that understands the responsibility we have to protect animals from cruelty and neglect.
I am especially proud of the identity we’ve built around **”Saving Lives, One Rescue at a Time.”** To me, that isn’t just a tagline; it represents exactly who we are. Every animal matters, and every rescue is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
I’m also incredibly proud that Greener Pastures has grown into a community effort. Our volunteers, donors, families, and community partners are an essential part of what we do. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes to provide an animal with a second chance, and it truly takes a village.
Ultimately, I want people to know that Greener Pastures isn’t just a place where animals come to live. It is a place where they come to heal. We want every animal who comes through our gates to know what it feels like to be safe, cared for, and valued—and whenever possible, to help them find a loving home where that can continue.
What does success mean to you?
I define success by the lives we change—not by how big we become. If an animal comes to us scared, neglected, or broken and leaves healthy, loved, and knowing what safety feels like, that is success. Every life saved and every second chance we provide is a win.
