Today we’d like to introduce you to Rani Alfers.
Hi Rani, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The story behind starting my Podcast, Working Women Mentor began during the pandemic. With traditional networking events closed, I launched a Facebook Live series that provided space for female business owners to share experiences and insights of how they were pivoting during the unique times. From these conversations, I realized the craving that we all have for mentorship and how women want to share what they know.
The core concept is simple yet powerful – to support each other in life and work by sharing a “mentor moment,” a piece of advice that can potentially change someone’s life trajectory.
As an entrepreneur, I’ve always been motivated by the drive for independence and pushing beyond perceived limitations. This podcast perfectly aligns with my passion for connecting with people and my belief in cherishing every moment. For me, the exhilaration of the journey comes from meeting people, hearing their stories, and learning from them. It’s about staying in the present, embracing new experiences, and nurturing meaningful relationships.
Currently, I personally fund all the production costs and time associated with each episode because I believe in the impact it can make. The podcast’s growth from 30 downloads for the first episode to 45,000 downloads underlines its value to others. The podcast’s uniqueness lies in its ability to invite both the speaker and listener to the same playing field, providing small mentorship moments to be remembered, used, and paid forward. In my career, taking risks and embracing new challenges have been pivotal. This spirit underpins the Working Women Mentor Podcast, and I look forward to its future growth and impact.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any new venture, the road to where we are now with the Working Women Mentor Podcast has been a unique experience. It has been filled with learning experiences and growth opportunities. One of the major struggles, especially at the onset, was figuring out the technical aspects of running a podcast. It’s not as simple as just recording a conversation and uploading it. There’s sound editing, quality assurance, marketing, distribution… the list goes on.
This podcast is a labor of love, and while it was crucial for me to give a platform to all women, it was equally important that the guests on the podcast could provide valuable insights, stories, and mentor moments to our audience.
The positive feedback, the impact we’ve seen the podcast make, and the personal growth I’ve experienced make it all worthwhile. The difficulties have not deterred me; instead, they’ve motivated me to work harder and smarter to reach and inspire more women. Every obstacle has been a lesson learned, a steppingstone to creating a better, more impactful platform for women to learn from each other, to grow, and to thrive.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about EMR Equity?
Eighteen years ago, I moved to Texas and took a significant leap of faith, and started an all-lines insurance agency, which has since continued to grow and thrive under my guidance and a talented team. As my passion for professional growth deepened, I decided to continue to focus my energy on business and founded EMR Equity, a development group, with the goal of identifying our first acquisition. It was not appealing to me to stay in a “professional box”; we should never let that happen.
Looking back, I am most proud of the fact that I recognized my talents and took the first steps toward applying them outside of my current industry. The decision to pursue new opportunities in the luxury skincare market led me to an acquisition and my current role as CEO of EMK Skincare, a company with a rich legacy and enormous potential for growth.
My life has been shaped by a willingness to take risks and embrace new challenges, and I remain committed to exploring new horizons and pushing beyond my limits. I laugh when someone says, why skincare you have an insurance background. It’s as if insurance was perceived as my only skill; no one was looking at the actual business aspect of my agency or my talents as a professional. Through hard work and dedication, each day for me is a new opportunity to create a career that I love and look forward to seeing evolve.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love to read; there are so many books and people that inspire me, but here are a few remarkable people that stand out. Darren Hardy’s practical and determined mindset has always resonated with me, and I regularly listen to his daily messages and have taken multiple high-performance leadership courses. Equally impactful has been the work of Dr. Joseph Michelli, a renowned author, and speaker whose philosophy of “Wow” has opened my eyes to the true meaning of exceeding expectations. I have incorporated his approach into both my professional and personal life.
