Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It was fall of 2022 when my friend, Elizabeth, and I decided we wanted to run a summer camp for little girls. I remember we began brainstorming our camp name, themed days, and activities right away. We decided on Dream Big Girls Camp because we wanted our camp to have an inspiring message for all the girls that came. Then, after months of testing activities, planning logistics, sending emails, and setting up our supplies we ran our first two weeks of camp in the summer of 2023. Since then, we’ve been running 2 weeks of camp together each summer. But now Dream Big Girls Camp has spread out of our community and into the world through our social media platforms. I posted a few random videos in 2024, one went viral, and I just continued posting from then on. Our Instagram account has grown to 114K followers and our TikTok account has over 24K followers. Additionally, I created our Run-Your-Own Dream Big Girls Camp Packet which is a step-by-step guide for running a summer camp after seeing the overwhelming interest of other girls my age wanting to start a camp. We’ve also begun running birthday parties and Christmas camps and are continuing to expand our business to inspire the most girls as possible!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road for sure. We’ve had some challenges along the way including trouble with getting as many sign ups as we’d like, trying to keep up with the pressures of social media posting, and failed activities. But the important thing is that we learn from those obstacles and keep going no matter what!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is called Dream Big Girls Camp and it is a summer camp that inspires girls to Dream Big to become whoever they want to be when they grow up! We host summer camps, Christmas camps, and birthday parties all with fun activities that correspond to dream jobs. For example, on I Can Be a Scientist Day we make slime and do baking soda and vinegar explosions or on I Can Be a Fashionista Day we make lip gloss and have a fashion show! We are different than most summer camps because we not only have this special message, but because that message is spread beyond just the doors of our camp. I run successful Instagram and TikTok accounts that have inspired girls all over the world to Dream Big which is something I am very proud of. Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe that my qualities of never giving up and having a positive attitude are most important to my success. During camp things can go wrong very easily and become very stressful, but just keeping an optimistic attitude for the girls and going with the flow is part of why our camp is such a hit. There have also been many times when I’ve hit roadblocks in my business and felt like quitting, but my characteristic of always working hard and never giving up helped me to move past those and take Dream Big Girls Camp to new levels.
