Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee And Jason Davis.
Hi Renee and Jason, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our story begins in Chicago two sides of the city, one shared passion.
One of us grew up on the west side, the other on the south side, but we were both raised in environments where food meant more than just a meal. It meant family, community, and connection. Those early experiences shaped how we cook, how we serve people, and how we show love through food.
To us, cooking is an art. It’s expression, it’s culture, and it’s a way to bring people together. Every dish we create is intentional from the seasoning to the presentation because we believe food should not only taste good, but make you feel something.
When we made the move to Texas, it was about more than just relocating it was about creating something of our own. Like many families, we came with faith, determination, and the willingness to work hard for a better future. We didn’t have everything figured out, but we knew we wanted to build something together.
That’s how Married to the Flame was born.
This business is a true reflection of us as a couple. One of us brings the creativity and heart from the kitchen, while the other brings the fire and passion from the grill and smoker. Together, we create something that represents both of us our backgrounds, our story, and our love for what we do.
It hasn’t been an easy journey. Building this has taken long nights, early mornings, sacrifice, and a lot of faith. There were moments of uncertainty, but we stayed consistent, kept pushing, and trusted the process. Hard work and dedication have carried us every step of the way.
One of the biggest things we’ve learned is how important it is to find something you and your spouse truly enjoy doing together. This business has strengthened our bond, deepened our partnership, and given us a shared purpose.
From small plate sales to catering events and serving our community, everything we do is rooted in love, consistency, and pride. Every plate we serve represents where we come from and everything we’re building together.
Today, we’re proud of how far we’ve come but we’re even more excited about where we’re going.
This isn’t just about food.
This is about art.
This is about legacy.
This is Married to the Flame.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road for us. When we started Married to the Flame, we had the passion, but we were still figuring everything else out as we went. Building something from nothing while balancing life, family, and finances wasn’t easy. There were moments where we were putting in long nights and early mornings, giving it everything we had, and still not seeing results right away.
One of the biggest challenges was learning how to grow together, not just as a couple, but as business partners. We had to figure out how to communicate better, how to stay patient with each other, and how to truly support one another in our roles. Jason is on the grill, Renee is in the kitchen, and we had to learn how to trust each other in those spaces while still moving as one.
We also had to build our name from the ground up. Coming from Chicago and starting fresh in Texas, we didn’t have a built-in audience. We had to earn people’s trust one plate at a time. That meant being consistent, showing up, and making sure every meal reflected the love and effort we put into it, even on the days we were tired.
There were definitely moments that tested us, but those challenges made us stronger. They taught us discipline, resilience, and how important it is to stay committed to something you truly believe in. Cooking is an art to us, but building this business together has been just as meaningful.
The journey hasn’t been perfect, but every obstacle has shaped who we are today. Married to the Flame is more than just food, it’s a reflection of our story, our growth, and the love we have for what we do together.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Married to the flame?
Married to the Flame is more than just a catering business to us, it’s something we built together from the ground up with passion, creativity, and a shared love for cooking. We are a husband and wife chef team, with Jason leading on the grill and smoker, and Renee creating in the kitchen. That balance is what really defines us.
What we do is bring people together through food. We specialize in smoked meats, soul food, and a variety of different cuisines, but what really makes us stand out is how we blend those flavors. We are known for putting our own twist on classic dishes, whether it’s smoked oxtails, loaded pastas, seafood creations, or comfort meals that feel like home. We don’t like to stay in one lane, we create based on flavor, experience, and what our customers love.
One thing that truly sets us apart is that everything we do is hands-on and made with intention. From plate sales to full-service catering, every meal represents us. We focus on quality, presentation, and making sure people feel something when they eat our food. It’s not just about feeding people, it’s about giving them an experience.
We are also proud of how connected we are to our community. Giving back is a big part of who we are, whether it’s feeding families, supporting local events, or showing up for people when they need it. That’s something we carry with us in everything we do.
Brand-wise, what we are most proud of is that Married to the Flame is real. It reflects our story, our growth, and our partnership. It shows what can happen when you take something you love and build it together with consistency and dedication.
What we want people to know is that there’s nothing we can’t do when it comes to food. We’re always evolving, always creating, and always looking for ways to bring something different to the table. Whether it’s an intimate dinner, a big event, or a plate sale, we put the same level of care into everything.
At the end of the day, Married to the Flame isn’t just about cooking, it’s about connection, creativity, and doing something we truly enjoy together.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
For us, risk has always been a part of the journey, even if we didn’t always look at it that way in the beginning. Starting Married to the Flame was a risk on its own. We were stepping into something we were passionate about, but there was no guarantee of how it would turn out. We had to invest our time, our money, and our energy into something we truly believed in.
One of the biggest risks we took was fully committing to the business and stepping away from our regular jobs. That was a major decision for us, because it meant giving up stability and trusting that what we were building could sustain us. It wasn’t easy, and it definitely required a lot of faith, discipline, and sacrifice, but it also pushed us to take our business to another level.
We also took risks in how we created and presented our food. Trying new dishes, mixing different flavors, and offering things people may not have seen before was a risk, because you never know how it will be received. But those risks are what helped us stand out and build our identity.
Our view on risk now is a lot different than when we first started. We don’t see it as something to fear, we see it as a necessary part of growth. Every step forward requires some level of faith. At the same time, we’ve learned how to take smarter risks. We pay attention to what works, we listen to our customers, and we make decisions that push us forward without losing who we are.
We don’t believe in playing it completely safe, because that’s where growth gets limited. But we also believe in being intentional. For us, risk is about trusting the work we put in, trusting our vision, and being willing to step out there even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.
Everything we’ve built so far has come from taking those chances, and we’re still learning, still growing, and still taking risks as we continue to expand Married to the Flame.
