Community Highlights: Meet Ria Urs of Interiors By Ria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ria Urs

Hi Ria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
While my career initially began in the tech sector following a master’s degree in Operations and logistics and Information Technology, my true passion has always been interior design. The realization that interior design could harmoniously merge the technical precision of engineering with the boundless creativity it offers led me to make a decisive shift towards aligning the two fields. In 2020, I transformed this newfound passion into a business, focusing on innovative solutions alongside design aesthetics.

Guided by the core principles of – expecting the unexpected and maintaining clear communication – I navigate the design process with a focus on effective communication to overcome challenges and turn them into victories. My top priority is understanding my clients’ needs and ensuring their projects align with their expectations. I find joy in the intricate details of creating personalized spaces for each client. Design goes beyond selecting pieces; it involves creating flow, optimizing space usage, and ensuring every element serves a purpose, whether for beauty, functionality, or both.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has definitely been a roller coaster, as with most businesses. There have been many highs and lows along the way. One of my biggest challenges was figuring out how to actually start the business, learning not just the creative side of interior design, but also how to run a business professionally. It took time to understand the nuances of the design process and how to structure my operations effectively. Another key struggle was recognizing my own value—determining my worth and comparing my deliverables to industry leaders in the area. Fortunately, I’ve been lucky to have a strong support system that guided me through these growing pains. Now, I focus on continually improving, always striving to make each design better than the last.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Interiors by Ria, we specialize in creating customized residential spaces, ranging from simple styling to complete redesigns, furnishings, and remodeling. What sets us apart is our unique approach to the design process. With my technical background, I’ve developed a step-by-step method similar to a software development lifecycle. This structured process resonates well with clients who are technically inclined, making it easy for them to follow along and feel confident in their decisions.

We’re a full-service design and build firm, and we pride ourselves on delivering a truly client-centered experience. Our team, all passionate about design and in their second careers, brings a fresh perspective to every project. We work closely with clients to create spaces that are not only aesthetically beautiful but also functional for their unique lifestyles.

One of the things I’m most proud of is our ability to adapt to various design styles that fit any family or home, without sacrificing individuality. We involve our clients extensively throughout the design process. This ensures that by the time the project is complete, there’s no second-guessing—just a sense of satisfaction and a luxury experience they can truly enjoy.

At the heart of Interiors by Ria, it’s about more than just design—it’s about creating spaces that feel like home, tailored perfectly to each client’s needs.

How do you define success?
For me, the highest level of success is seeing the genuine joy and excitement on my clients’ faces once a project is complete. There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing from them months later, telling me how much they’re still loving the space we created together. That lasting satisfaction—that’s what I aim for in every project. It’s not just about a beautiful design; it’s about creating a space that continues to bring happiness and comfort to my clients long after the work is done. That’s when I know I’ve truly succeeded.
