Today we’d like to introduce you to Ria Urs.
Ria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I didn’t start out in design, I actually began my career in engineering. I spent about 15 years as a software engineer, and while I loved the structure and problem-solving, I always had a deep passion for design. Over time, that passion became harder to ignore.
I went back to school for interior design and slowly started taking on projects. What began as something creative on the side turned into something much bigger. I realized I didn’t just enjoy design, I loved helping people transform how they live in their homes.
That’s how my firm began. I built it from the ground up, blending my technical background with creativity. My process is very structured, almost like a development lifecycle, which helps bring clarity and confidence to my clients especially during large remodels or new builds.
Today, I run a luxury, full-service design studio where we handle everything from concept to completion. My focus has always been on creating spaces that feel personal, functional, and elevated while making the experience smooth and enjoyable for my clients.
It’s been a big shift from engineering, but in many ways, I’m still doing the same thing- solving problems, just in a more creative and human-centered way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like any business, there have been a lot of ups and downs along the way.
In the beginning, the biggest challenge was shifting careers. Moving from a stable engineering role into something creative and uncertain was a big leap. There was a lot of learning not just design, but also how to run a business, manage clients, and handle projects from start to finish.
As the business grew, the challenges changed. Managing expectations, balancing creativity with budgets, and navigating construction and vendor delays can be tough. There are also moments where you have to stand firm in your expertise while still making clients feel heard and supported.
Another big part has been growth. When you start getting busier, you have to figure out systems, processes, and how to scale without losing the level of service you’re known for.
But every challenge has shaped how I run my business today. It’s made me more thoughtful, more structured, and more focused on creating a smooth experience for my clients even when things behind the scenes aren’t always perfect.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I run a luxury, full-service interior design studio where we take care of everything from start to finish. That can be anything from furnishing a home to full remodels, kitchens, bathrooms, or even new builds. My goal is to make the process easy for my clients so they don’t have to worry about all the moving parts.
What I really specialize in is creating spaces that feel personal. I don’t design in just one style I design around my clients. Every home should reflect the people living in it, so I take the time to understand how they live, what they love, and what they need day to day.
One thing that sets me apart is how I run my projects. Because of my engineering background, my process is very structured and clear. I guide clients step by step, almost like a roadmap, so they always know what’s happening next. It takes a lot of the stress out of the experience, especially for large remodels.
I’m also very hands-on. I stay involved from concept all the way through installation, and I’ve built strong relationships with contractors and vendors to make sure everything comes together the way it should. For my clients, it’s a very high-touch, white-glove experience.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how intentional everything is. From the process to the client experience to the final result, it’s all built around quality, trust, and attention to detail.
What I want people to know is that we’re not just designing beautiful spaces we’re creating homes that truly work for their lives. And we make sure the journey to get there feels just as good as the end result.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories was waiting for the Harry Potter series books to come out. We would stand in line for hours on release day, and it always felt so exciting. What I loved most was getting lost in the story creating this magical world in my mind and escaping to a place where castles and magic felt real.
