Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricardo Hernandez Jr.
Hi Ricardo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ever since I was little, I had multiple creative outlets if it wasn’t drawing it was creating stories and from stories, I made music. At the age of 14, I became infatuated with exploring and reaching new heights after stumbling across a rooftop one night we were all skating downtown. I got my first camera at 15 it was Nikon d3400, 5 years later I’m now shooting with a Sony a7iii producing/directing music videos and photoshoots. I mentioned I made music, right? I started producing my own music in 6th grade and continued on till 10th grade. Doing this made me feel a very strong connection with the underground music scene and its artist, from pricing to doing videos for free I always made sure that if I seen potential and strong work ethic id give the artist my full support. My motto is “project positivity and positive things will come to you”. I got to where I am today by watching and listening to my peers, communicating, networking and you can’t forget the people close to you supporting you. I try to use social media as a platform to encourage support for our local artist and this has opened many doors for me. Always remember art is objective there’s a million different versions of your art so don’t try too hard to appeal to anyone but yourself you can’t please everyone.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is ever easy you ask to become stronger they’ll be obstacles you must overcome in order to do so. Living in the ghettos of Dallas there was a lot of distraction in my environment, it was easy to get mixed up in the wrong crowd or be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’m glad I was able to pick up a camera to keep me preoccupied and away from those distractions. When I looked thru that viewfinder it was another world for someone like me with ADHD that struggled with focusing and constantly feeling scattered brain, it was like I was able to isolate everything around me and just focus on what I’m seeing and it didn’t take long for me to appreciate what I was looking at. One big struggle when coming up in the photography scene was that there was virtually no help from veteran photographers, people were always in competition with one another rather than learning from each other. people would even hide spots! rooftops I can understand for safety concerns but public locations? it made it really hard to get along with people in the photography scene which detoured me from going to photography meets. Nonetheless, I still showed my support and made it to a lot of meet-ups where I was able to network and meet a lot of amazing people with amazing talents!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Terror in Texas is more than just a creative group and production team, we’re an embodiment of Texas culture and principles. We stick to our roots, and our roots are deep! we want to share our beliefs and bring the community under 1 umbrella; we want people to be proud of being from the south and to stop fighting amongst ourselves because let’s face it Texas culture is one of the most influential things in the rap scene and we need to protect it. We care deeply for our clients’ work and treat our films like art pieces the same way our artist views they’re work. We pride ourselves on affordable pricing for any event and work with a variety of budgets. That’s one thing that I feel separates us from a lot of other groups is we are not in this for the money we love creating memories and experiences we can share with the world this doesn’t feel like work to us, we try to have fun. We will soon be offering full production for films and music videos but as of 2022, we offer a basic video package that covers manual labor, equipment, and post-production. We also offer photography services at set locations anywhere in the city and studio work if requested digital/film available.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Our underground scene is popping right now! From innovative art to fashion Dallas underground scene seems to be taking over and shedding light on talents that are paving the way for new forms and types of art. These events being held for artist are brimming with support and you can’t help but wanna mosh pit or sit and appreciate the art before you. With Dallas it’s almost a ying and yang situation while having some of the most amazing people, there are some of the worst and it just happens that in Dallas the worse take majority. The next person doesn’t wanna see others surpass and achieve goals before they’re selfs, this selfish attitude keeps us from creating a stable enough support system for creatives to climb and reach stardom here in Dallas Texas. I want to get rid of the notion that if you wanna get to the top you gotta use people as steps and emphasize the culture we all share to make us realize that were stronger together than independently. when 1 succeeds others follow along with the city’s reputation! we win as a whole.
