Hi Shimaa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Shimaa Shanshil, and I’m an entrepreneur, educator, and beauty professional with a story rooted in resilience and passion. I immigrated from Baghdad Iraq with a dream to build a better life—not just for myself, but for others who believe in the power of transformation and self-confidence.
Starting over in a new country wasn’t easy, but I brought with me a deep love for aesthetics and a strong work ethic. I began building my career in the beauty and wellness field, and over the years, I earned multiple certifications, gained hands-on experience, and developed a loyal clientele who trusted my vision.
With time, I founded Shimaa Beauty Center—a med spa dedicated to providing personalized, advanced aesthetic treatments in Texas. I later expanded my dream by launching The Shimaa Academy, a licensed training center that empowers aspiring professionals to start their own careers in the beauty industry.
Today, I’m proud to be a woman-owned business leader, educator, and mentor. My journey from Baghdad to business ownership in the U.S. reminds me every day that with courage, faith, and hard work, anything is possible
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As an immigrant from Baghdad Iraq, my journey to becoming an entrepreneur in the U.S. was filled with challenges. I had to overcome language barriers, adapt to a new culture, and start from scratch in a highly competitive industry. Building trust in a new community, navigating complex licensing requirements, and managing the financial risks of starting a business were all part of the uphill climb. There were moments of doubt and isolation, but I stayed committed to my vision. Each challenge became a stepping stone, shaping me into a stronger, more resilient leader.
We’ve been impressed with Shimaa Beauty Center, and The Shimaa Academy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Shimaa Beauty Center & The Shimaa Academy, we specialize in advanced medical aesthetics, wellness treatments, and professional training in cosmetology and aesthetics. Based in Texas, we’re known for combining cutting-edge technology with a personalized, heart-centered approach. From Botox, fillers, laser, and skin rejuvenation treatments to IV therapy and holistic wellness, our goal is to help clients look and feel their best—naturally and confidently. What truly sets us apart is our deep commitment to honesty, education, and results. We don’t just offer services—we build trust and deliver transformations. Through The Shimaa Academy, we also train the next generation of beauty professionals, offering licensed programs and hands-on mentorship rooted in real-world experience. Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the reputation we’ve built for integrity, care, and empowerment. I want people to know that whether they come to us for a treatment or to start their own beauty career, they’ll be supported, educated, and inspired every step of the way.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories was spending weekends with my family visiting our factory. That place left a lasting impression on me. I would accompany my mother and listen closely as my parents discussed work matters, while my siblings worked together as a team. From those simple moments, I learned valuable lessons about discipline, responsibility, and how to deal with people and build trust with those who truly deserve it. Growing up in such a work-centered environment shaped my awareness from a young age and planted in me a deep love for work and structure. I used to tell myself: one day, I will grow up to become a woman of purpose—someone with her own path, her own business, and a meaningful role in her community.
